| 580377 | 2007-08-13 10:56:00 | Personally I'll always thank the folks for help given. But if the respondent blatantly misses the point of my query and proffers some mindless techno-babble, I'm sure not going to bother giving him feedback. | Greg (193) | ||
| 580378 | 2007-08-13 11:08:00 | I think the main reason the poster dosent say thanks, is because they havent been helped. They just give up and get advice somewhere else. Lots of times, its people here with high number of posts that dont read the question properly and give dumb advice. And then some other high number of post numb nuts gives conflicting advice. The reason I know this is because its happened to me. tedheath |

| 580380 | 2007-08-13 11:31:00 | Its not exactly easy to give a correct dioagnoses on the first round to these issues, In the real world a tech may have tried 5 things in a few minutes and cured the problem, or spend an hour trying to nut it out. Here we have people who probally don't understand their problem asking for advice they probally can't follow. And if the first couple of suggestions are wrong or just to hard for themn they may give up and get someone to look at it. And god help the poor sod whose trying to give help but missed the specific point of the post and gave over the wrong info, After all, they were only trying to help. Plus of course we do see a fair few posters who post poor advice or opinions on issues they are ignorant of, Ted's a prime example. Anyone deserving the offered help would thank those that made the effort to help, even if it did't resolve the issue. |

| 580381 | 2007-08-13 19:56:00 | Yep, it is hard asking questions in the 1st place. I wait in trepidation to be mocked by someone who knows better/more, then slink away feeling humbled before thinking of saying thanks (especially when it comes to my love/hate relationship with Linux!!!). I think a lot of people get scared off even asking and as Rob said, it's hard if their spelling/language/lack of English is made fun of. I have heard that other forums are much less forgiving though, so maybe that's why people ask here instead. So, for all those wonderful people who help me with my silly questions without a second thought- here is a big thanks to you  Noone here knows everything (and to the Metla zealots, yes I include Metla in this comment ... and I know he will quite happily agree with this). I know a bit, but I definitely don't know it all (and try to portray that). There are times when I think its correct, but get proven wrong by someone more in the know (like BIOS/CMOS setup .. ty John (the one who uses PCLOS) for that correction). I believe there is a saying along the lines of: 'the silliest/stupidest question is the one that went unasked'... make of that what you will :) I generally will thank those who reply and are deemed to have least attempted to help, sometimes I forget. I appreciate hearing back if I have helped in any way, it means I can remember that as a useful solution and maybe help someone else with it later who is in a similar predicament. I know people forget to thank others for their help/suggestions (I am giving Jan the benefit of the doubt for a recent PM) I think the main reason the poster dosent say thanks, is because they havent been helped. They just give up and get advice somewhere else. Lots of times, its people here with high number of posts that dont read the question properly and give dumb advice. And then some other high number of post numb nuts gives conflicting advice. The reason I know this is because its happened to me. tedheathAgain I ask you, who are these high count numb nuts/clowns of which you speak? |
