579075 2007-08-11 06:05:00 Pretty much anyone who wants to teach in a demand field (maths, chemistry, physics, te reo, and others I can't remember) can get their fees paid in the way of a scholarship. You also get a $10k living costs payout.

Yeah, rob, there is more need for male teachers, but the scholarships are open to anyone.

I'd consider becoming a high school teacher for 500K a year plus bonuses.

I wouldn't work in a creche in Christchurch for less than ten million an hour.

Early Childhood Education scholarships - about $20,000 each

Eligibility:

- people with a low income who are eligible for a community services card,

OR

- students enrolling in specific ECE qualifications to teach in Maori or Pasifika setting
- open only to new students in 2006

Maori medium scholarships - up to $20,000

Eligibility:

- people of any ethnicity
- academic and te reo Maori proficiency requirements apply
- open to both new and existing students enrolled in teacher education programmes
- no limit to number of scholarships available

Secondary teaching scholarships - $20,000 plus each

Eligibility:
- students in degree programmes in the areas of maths, physics, chemistry, technology and te reo Maori
