580250 2007-09-11 03:43:00 Whats happening is that young drivers are ignoring the no passenger rule and curfew. What the law should do do is take the liscence away for 12 months for these numbuts who disobey the graduated liscence system.
The parents of those chicks who got waxed in CHCH should be going to jail for not looking after their kids.
A 15 year old driver by themselves is no more dangerous than a 18 year old.
Most young males go through the give it death phase even if they started age 25 they would still lead foot it.

580251 2007-09-11 03:51:00 Comes back to the whole thing that some of the youth of today has no respect for any laws, because they have no fear .

They can't be touched . And they know it . Though that would change if they crossed my path .

And it ain't gonna get any better any time soon .

580252 2007-09-11 04:33:00 Nah....biggest problem I see with these idiots is the way they drive around urban areas. They could still do 100 in a 50kmh zone.

On the open road the issue there is older drivers.....70-80 kmh and no concept of pulling over. I hardly ever see speeding teenagers on the open road.

BTW - Mets. It might be time to remove the "****" and "gtfo" from your signature. I'm sure you're more mature than that, and it obviously causes problems. You're a dad right? You want your kid/s to see their dad speak like that in public?

Aha, however a governor is going to restrict the acceleration level so they appear to drive like a nana!....

They will hate it, and so not be inclined to strut and show off. They actually may just use the car as transport to get from A to B as it should be and allow under 21 to use vehicle to get to work, wonder if I could sell the idea?!

580253 2007-09-11 05:29:00 A car with a modified noisier than standard exhaust to me indicates boy racer or wanabee boy racer. Even more so if there is just a beanie sticking up over the steering wheel.

My daughter will probably be wanting to go out in 2-3 years hopefully a lot longer and if one of these fronts up to pick her up he will be sent packing.

I can forsee a few family arguments coming up in the future:-(

I did see the classic wanabee boy racer the other day. A Ford Fiesta with a huge drainpipe hanging out the back bigger than a Cat D9 exhaust. He was sitting at the lights reving the hell out of it and attempted a wheelie on take off. Poor little car.

I'm 15 (I'm also about to get my license) - I've bought a car with cash that I have spent the last three years earning .
I have a 1993 Mazda Presso, it has a coby muffler* and a big bore exhaust .
NOW - just because I have these doesn't mean AT ALL that I'm a boy racer, or that I'm not a mature driver . It just so happened that I bought the car with these and the car cost $2500, it would cost (probably) around that to take it off .

A loud/noisy car doesn't do much, the less mufflers just helps performance .

To me, a person who is going 100Ks + (or anything over the speed limit in the zone) indicates that they are a boy racer . (or Girl racer if they are female lol) .

I WANT to have the boy racer "image", but I don't acctually want to BE a boy racer . (I DO NOT intend on breaking the law in any way, and I WILL be driving the speed limit) .

-So I find it unjustified, unfair and rude that you are willing to catigorise people for the type of car they have, some teenagers don't deserve to be on the road/have a car, however some do, their type of car isn't anything to judge that by .
(It's only a 1 . 5L by the way, I'm happy with that, less petrol, and possibly easier to drive, it still reaches the speed limit fast enough too) .

=============================

I think there should be some way on weeding out bad driver, and weeding out the good ones .
A good driver at 15 DOES deserve to drive, a bad driver at ANY AGE does NOT deserve to drive . Simple as that .

=============================

It's also more of an insesity to drive, public transport is USELESS, espically for rural areas (so that's one reason why I have a car) . - So another reason why people shouldn't be catigotorised . . .

Peace out .

580255 2007-09-12 00:13:00 So you want to 'do up' your car to look or sound like a boy racer but not actually race?....

Noisy cars suck arse unless its on the track.

580256 2007-09-12 00:41:00 In a perfect world the cops would have a car crusher onsite and crush these noisy cars on the roadside.
Big bore exhausts are all about noise tyler, you are boy racer.
I suppose the theory is less back pressure in the exhaust which could give you more power pity the speed limit is only 100kph which my Morris 1300 does quite happily.

580257 2007-09-12 01:22:00 "I'm 15" and "doesn't mean AT ALL that ... I'm not a mature driver." - oxymoron, or at least contradictory

"It just so happened that I bought the car with these and the car cost $2500, it would cost (probably) around that to take it off." - I seriously doubt removing / replacing the aftermarket exhaust system would cost any more than a couple of hundred bucks

"A loud/noisy car doesn't do much, the less mufflers just helps performance." - except annoying the neighbours and people walking down the street and drawing attention to yourself - this latter bit is probably the most pertinent. "Helping performance" is at odds with your declaration about driving to the speed limit (below) ....

..."(I DO NOT intend on breaking the law in any way, and I WILL be driving the speed limit)."
...

"-So I find it unjustified, unfair and rude that you are willing to catigorise people for the type of car they have, some teenagers don't deserve to be on the road/have a car, however some do, their type of car isn't anything to judge that by." - generalisations, by their very nature, usually have a basis in fact.
...

"I think there should be some way on weeding out bad driver, and weeding out the good ones." - good point, any sensible suggestions would be welcomed by LTSA
"A good driver at 15 DOES deserve to drive, a bad driver at ANY AGE does NOT deserve to drive. Simple as that." - agree wholeheartedly

....

"It's also more of an insesity to drive, public transport is USELESS, espically for rural areas (so that's one reason why I have a car). - So another reason why people shouldn't be catigotorised..." - yes Public Transport is useless (oops - another generalisation here ;)) - but this has nothing to do with the categorisation of someone by the type of car they choose to drive.

Peace out. See embedded coments

I seriously doubt removing / replacing the aftermarket exhaust system would cost any more than a couple of hundred bucks$265. And you could sell the old one, assuming it's in good nick, for around $100. ;)
