580101 2007-08-12 22:39:00 I say yes, we must be one of the few countries in the world with such a ludicrously low age.

580102 2007-08-12 22:41:00 Yes they should, as the amount of dead teenagers are piling up, the cars are too powerful. And as an aside, they are all brain dead until 30. Not my words, but the words of Bill Cosby. intel hunter (6666)
580103 2007-08-12 23:03:00 Definately Digby. And getting a license made considerably more challenging/harder more like Germany.

Better laws on limiting what mods can be made to cars, maybe speed limiters on the younger drivers for the first few years.

Currently my young teenage daughter is only about 3 years away from getting a license, it makes me cringe to see some of the young idiots on our roads driving around with a carefree attitude to any speed laws or any other traffic laws.

580104 2007-08-12 23:48:00 No.

25.

And how about the families of these idiots? See the sister of the latest dead teen wants to sue the police.
As if its their fault. He should have just pulled over instead of taking off at 180k.

580105 2007-08-12 23:59:00 I would rather see the requirments raised right across the board, Make it real, take the fools off the road, keep them off, destroy their cars, lock them up.

And stop wiping peoples fines ***.

580106 2007-08-13 00:06:00 It makes no difference what the driving age should be raised to and how hard should it be to get a drivers license or what sort of exams and driving test should be put in place. Once alcohol comes into play even the most experienced drivers are a danger to the public and themselves. I dont know if this dude was drunk or not, but am just saying this in general. ronyville (10611)
580107 2007-08-13 00:34:00 No raise it to 110 - then there would be no car accidents.

Seriously age has nothing to do with this issue, "maturity" does - but this is not something we measure. Maybe it is time we did and have a progressive licensing system based upon "maturity". Ie. curfew certain divers based upon their performance,

580108 2007-08-13 00:55:00 Oh dear, punish the majority because of a minority?....thats crazy, What it comes down to is punishment for the offender/s, its is not stiff enough, and the parents need to be included also.
I think if unpaid fine get over say $1k and the offender is caught speeding, take their damn car, sell it and pay off the fines, they will think twice about it next time.
I think that is the root of many of our repeat offender issues, NO deterrent!

I think that California and parts of Canada now take the car and if it was modified for "Street Racing" the car gets crushed. Saves the waiting time before the car gets wrecked on the road.

Idiots come in all age ranges, older drivers usually show more than just a pair of eyes and a beanie above the dash
