2007-08-10 05:17:00 | I remember reading this post: www.pressf1.co.nz On an IT outfit in Oamaru. Today I was called by a friend who lives and works in Oamaru. She needed a new PC for her workplace and the business left arrangements to her so she called a friend in Oamaru. To be fair to her, he advertises himself as "business IT support" and is always telling her about his huge client base and the massive amount of business he does. He sold her this: LENOVO Thinkcentre A51 www.pcservices.co.nz Interestingly I found this review on it: www.goodgearguide.com.au This part caught my attention: Friday, 1st of July, 2005 # This product is no longer available directly from the manufacturer. He also said he'd charge an extra $100 to "set it up". This was to be installing their software on this new PC and transferring over all the data and making sure it was all ready for my frined to carry on working on it. The main program they use is Aurora. Soon to be upgraded to MYOB. He turned up, set up the PC, took the HDD out of the old one, did something with it, left the old PC in pieces and then left. She then found she couldn't get into the new PC as he had set up a login password and neglected to tell her, then when she got that, found Aurora was not working properly and none of the data was there. She got him back the next day (her day off) and he messed about until 10:58am then told her he couldn't do it, good luck and left again. She panicked and rang me, but I was out, so she then rang MYOB who told which files to copy over and voila, 2 minutes later its working. Well almost. It has a dot matrix printer attached which they use to print certain things out and that is not printing the correct layout yet. She reassembled the old PC so she could check settings in it, installed a firewall and is downloading some malware protection. She says she will never use this guy again. Neither would I, I can't believe he just walked out on her either.

2007-08-10 06:48:00 | Hey, what about Cowgirls pc :D These guys give us a bad name. Of course in Oamaru there is not alot of choice for IT services given its size.

2007-08-10 07:36:00 | Are you saying this problem comes from the same firm named in your link, pctek? If so, fair enough. If not, are you suggesting Oamaru has a higher proportion of cowboys than other towns? Otherwise why mention the place? (Could make me uptight if I was either an Oamaru customer or IT tech. As mentioned above, there's not a lot of choice)

2007-08-10 09:46:00 | Are you saying this problem comes from the same firm named in your link, pctek? Yes. Co-incidence the latest 2 were from the same place. Don't worry there's dodgy places here too. And many in Auckland.

2007-08-10 12:13:00 | There are at least some good IT people around West Dorkland. I am lucky, met this super ultra mega computer geek chick when she was fixing computers at a Fork Lift place. Got her card and used her 3 times now. Office network is running sweet. Cant believe how quick she fixes things and real cheap. She has 40 dollar min charge fixed 2nd problem in a few minutes and said ok what else can I fix. Not sure if I am allowed to post her business name here. The fantastic thing is all the stress caused by computer problems has gone. By stress I mean the hassles trying to fix computer harware and software glitches. Now just phone up and get it fixed. Press F1 ok but let down by clowns with high numbers of posts replying without fully reading the question. This puts a lot of other people off replying. tedheath

The rules are no self-promotion or spamming, not recommending good IT people/places. And I used to live in West Auckland. |
