760725 2009-03-30 06:06:00 Ok

I have cpanel and all the associated bumpf that goes with it and making backups of mysql databases is a doddle, it saves them as databasename.sql.gz, but I have to do this manually, what i want to do is to have it automatically create backups and save them to a folder outside of the webroot and to have the date as part of the file name
eg dbname_date.sql.gz

But I cannot see a way to do this using cpanel

any ideas or suggestions,

I also realise I will need to use the cron job thingie to make it run every few days and also I will need to get a function to delete any backups that are over a certain number of days old

760726 2009-03-30 06:10:00 You using the phpadmin or whatever its called?

If you have administrative privledges over cpanel (ie you own the server running it) then there should be an option to backup the entire account which would include your databases I assume

If your using it under just your account on someone elses server I dont think you can, unless the host can sort something

760728 2009-03-30 22:29:00 Ive just done something similar, except I use sqldump & rsync to backup to another server, not FTP.

I could post details if you're interested?
