| 582534 | 2007-08-18 23:44:00 | Ashamed to be PC World editor Well, momentarily. Apple launched its new iMacs today - all glass and aluminium - and as always at Mac launches, as someone from the PC camp I felt a bit inadequate. Design-wise, at least, there's still no PC maker that even approaches Apple. blogs.pcworld.co.nz I will be looking forward to the September issue of NZ PC World, Chris :) |

I wouldn't say Apple was copying anything about Windows, more like they are making it less of a jump for Windows users to move to using Macs in the work place and at home since Parallel (and BootCamp) are designed to give Windows users that feeling of familiarity they might need while using a different OS. Sounds like you will be able to read all about it in Septembers issue of PC World. |

| 582537 | 2007-08-19 02:19:00 | Less of a jump? You can't get Mac OS working on any PC machines - but you can get Windows to run on some Macs now. Choosing a Mac is choosing to limit choice - and only one in twenty users disagree. I would rather have a choice of hardware at competitive prices from a range of manufacturers - than several million development dollars spent getting plastic to look translucent enough to remind Steve Jobs of boiled lollies... |

You can't get Mac OS working on any PC machines - And you probably never will, although I have found that Parallels runs XP Pro very well on my Intel iMac. BootCamp in OS X also runs quite well from what i have heard. I gather there are going to be some further developments in Leopard. The only other thing I have read is that the beta of Parallels 3 is pretty rough. |

The new models Now, the case-free design is at its zenith, with all the guts of the computer tucked under the display. For sure. No PC manufacturer? Yep well theres your Dells, Compaqs and so on. Then theres custom built. Nice if you could custom build a MAc. And he apparently likes the guts in the display thing - I think thats an absolute nightmare. |

| 582541 | 2007-08-19 02:56:00 | You can custom build a Mac, using 2nd hand parts of Trade me although to really custom build your own computer and call it a Mac would be outside Apple's design ethos. You would also be doing very well to beat Jonny Ive CBE. en.wikipedia.org |

| 582542 | 2007-08-19 03:13:00 | You can custom build a Mac, using 2nd hand parts of Trade me In the same way that you can custom build a laptop? You buy the RAM, HDD, DVD, CPU, and then the laptop to put them in. Wait......... |

It would be interesting to see if some one with computer building experience could custom build a better package for commercial production than what Apple puts together for a desktop computer both from a usability and aesthetic point of view (inside and out) Intel usually holds a design comp once a year with a $1 million US first prize. |
