We have recently identified a fault in our registration system and as a result the Yahoo!Xtra Bubble registration process is temporarily unavailable. We apologise for any inconvenience caused to you.

More problems

Telecom have said that very few people were affected and so they will not be contemplating compensation. Nearest thing to an admission of guilt I've heard yet.

582321 2007-08-21 05:06:00 Well after getting through to xtra i found out some interesting information:

The people answering the phone are staff that were only tranined for 4 days before being put on the phone to customers with questions about whats wrong.

The part thats even better, they were trained as sales staff.

The ever so bright girl i spoke to (thanks Angela) didnt know the difference between an operating system, a windows default application and a packaged application. Apparently Microsoft Windows Vista and Outlook Express are similar things and recieve mail (her own words).

Oh but theres more, apparently if you have a mac, they cant help. When asked who can help, the answer is "no one here".

Just before ending the call, i ask to speak to her supervisor so i can voice my concern, im told she wont transfer me.

After telling her off like a small child i get her supervisor (who is apparently a sales trainer) who tells me if i want to complain to make the complaint about him because he really doesnt care, he gives me his name and reference number (Tom, T806087) then hangs up on me.

Wow telecom know how to treat a customer and train staff.

Whats the number for Vodafone again?

582322 2007-08-21 05:17:00 You should forward that one to Fair Go. winmacguy (3367)
582323 2007-08-21 06:24:00 What if you're on linux?

What if you want to download your emails faster than a snail stuck inside a matchbox?

Xtra is working for me now, but extremely slowly. Funny enough it's about the same speed as my actual Yahoo.com email account.

I wonder if xtra's email will ever be fast again.... I'm kinda doubting it

582324 2007-08-23 03:53:00 Like many others I worked through the registration process (several times) until I got right through - but only by abandoning any attempt to set up Subaccounts - that's just not working.
I can access my email on the web but Outlook Express keeps timing out - so I used tracert to see what the latency was. 327ms while it goes out through the national gateway, over to Oz and through three servers before reaching pop3.xtra.co.nz !

Gotta remember xtra is 51% owned by Yahoo now, and I think telecom want to sell them the rest...

:groan:
Isn't it interesting all the different responses to the burst bubble.
I too have had problems with Outlook, which kept timing out, and the whole internet experience is extremely slow.
Every evening for the past 3 nights I have been on the phone trying to get this sorted (last night 80 minutes on hold before a real person answered).
Last nights response was different - apparently this is all my fault, or at least the fault of Norton Internet Security 2007 I have loaded. She e-mailed me information on how to get rid of it (even though I had to resort to webmail as Outlook not working), and I received instructions on how to fix it for Norton 2000, 2001, 2002 and 2003. Guess there is loads of stuff out of date.
I removed firewalls against my better judgement, but this did not fix the problem with time out. So I guess I will be back on the phone tonight.
Anyone care to guess how long I might be on hold???????????????

582325 2007-08-23 04:17:00 yeah pop3.xtra.co.nz is actually pop1.tnz.mail.vip.aue.yahoo.com

So the international traffic or whatever must be killing it, great work xtra!!!! :D :D :D

It's NOT a firewall or AV issue, so anyone who tells you to uninstall that is a complete idiot. The fault is definitely their problem and not ours. I have emailed xtra about this and will ring them if I don't get a reply. (of course, they've probably actually gone and stuck their own reply in my spam folder)

The Yahoo! spamguard is complete rubbish compared to the old Xtra one.

Have you seen the postings where people have found that the new settings didn't work for them but the original settings did? My Outlook is still working on the same settings it had before this fiasco began. This may change in the future. I tracert to pop3.xtra.co.nz in 78ms from Wellington

582327 2007-08-23 07:37:00 Sorry if this has already been covered, but I've trawled through all the entries regarding the bubble and might have missed it.
Finally took the bull by the horns and registered for webmail. Everything seemed to be ok so we sent ourselves a few test emails. Addressed them to our normal xtra address. Nothing came through when we checked through the webmail system, but did appear later via pop3.
Do we have to alter something for us to be able to view emails when we are away from our own pc's?
If we can work this out, without the trauma of going through the helpdesk, I would be delighted.

Cheers,
Marnie

ps Anyone remember the parody to the tune of God Defend New Zealand the Herald ran several years back?

God of Nations, save us from...
User pays and Telecom!!
How prophetic!!

582328 2007-08-23 07:43:00 Don't even bother trying to call Xtra if you are using Outlook 2007.

I had one of my customers call me after talking to a person at Xtra and was told that Office 2007 is not out yet so how can they help, as they have no records of the settings- Boy if office 2007 is not here, theres lots of people using "illegal " software
