| 582300 | 2007-08-20 01:15:00 | So guys.....wadda we do? Suck it up and sign up if we want Webmail, or.... Change ISP's? Venting aside, do our choices come down to that? I'm asking coz there's a lot more clued-up fellas here than me on these things, so I defer to your wisdom. AB |

| 582301 | 2007-08-20 02:01:00 | I think what has happened here, as happens a lot in big corporates, is that the Marketing Department have reacted to competitors and have implemented big changes without a lot of forethought (or testing or market research) . In my experience, Marketing Departments are not big subscribers to common sense or the "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" methodology . I'm not a big user of xtra (just have an account for occasional - horrendously expensive - data usage on the cellphone) and have an auto-forward from my xtra email account to my usual one . There was nothing wrong with the xtra . msn arrangement and that website was usable . I'm not going near the Yahoo replacement!! |

AB I had a phone call out of the blue from TelstraClear on Thursday offering me all of Otago for landline free calling, rather than just my own exchange. Tempting for my Central Otago calls... Next we got on to Dialup/Broadband stuff - and how their offers were much cheaper than my Xtra/Telecom. I said I wanted to see these in writing before making any decision, so they sent me an email with details. Ashamed to say I haven't read those yet, as it occurred to me that several ISPs would be making offers now & it'd be best to wait for more comparisons. They're phoning back later today. I may decide to remain undecided... Will post their offer details later. Stuff to do now. |

| 582304 | 2007-08-20 02:43:00 | The news might be interesting tonight; Telecom will not be changing its notification procedures despite a number of angry customers claiming they were not warned about a weekend email outage. tvnz.co.nz |

Actually, I think they may be offering that also - just that the "provincial" version would save me more on average. My "all of NZ" isn't often over $20 nowadays, what with relatives takeng turns to phone & occasional weekend specials. |

Often you can't get through to them, and they don't ever reply to emails. At least telecom is easy to get hold of and they usually reply to emails within a day or so. |

Get yourself an Orcon free lifetime email address or a Gmail account and use that for your main account so that you can all but abandon your Xtra one . Orcon and Gmail mail can be accessed via webmail or downloaded to your email client . You will obviously still have to check your Xtra emails regularly for correspondence from them but if you use PopTray in conjunction with Outlook Express (or Eudora if you listened to that little miss of yours ;)) you will be able to delete all the spam and unrequired mail off the server without it coming near your computer . |

Take a look at Orcons and Ihug/Vodafones deals first though so you have some comparisons. |

Like I have a choice???? :D Anyway . . . . . free?? Looking at Orcon site now . Nothing's fast on d/up! So I can direct this Orcon addy to OE like I have my xtra stuff? Can I have multiple email addresses going to OE or do I have to choose either Orcon or xtra? I use Eudora occasionally (one c or one s??), when I get bored with OE . . . . PM me if you like . . . this may not be the most riveting conv for others here to have to troll through . . . Thx Fox . |
