582290 2007-08-19 10:23:00 Can anyone confirm that Xtra's outgoing email ( Not Webmail) is working?

I just checked it Laura

My normal xtra e-mail (smtp.xtra) is still not working. Still get the 'please enter password' then a bit later smtp.xtra failed...bla bla

My business e-mail (officemail.xtra) is working when I send though.

582291 2007-08-19 10:42:00 As I don't need my Xtra webmail at present, I plan to do absolutely nothing until someone has done some sorting...
Don't like the sound of Yahoo at all.

But some help meanwhile, please - from others afflicted.

My Outlook Express is getting incoming emails, but I've not had the expected replies from some I've sent.

Can anyone confirm that Xtra's outgoing email ( Not Webmail) is working?

Hi folks ... I accidentally homed in on this site .... but reading all these notes makes me wonder if I wasn't guided here. I too have spent an entirely FRUSTRATING day sorting out the stuff up that Xtra have caused by getting into bed with !@#*&%$#@! Yahoo. :angry

Like lots of you I started getting a load of Spam which unfortunately coincided with me doing something I normally NEVER do sent details to Stuff nz. Then I lost the plot and allowed a pop-up ... then the spam started and I thought Oh heck ... or such words.

6 hours later I decided to shut the computer down and then get into Xtra ....and found it was shut. This morning went straight to Xtra and found the BAD news .... Yahoo Bubble ... Now I belong to an e-group which uses yahoo and works fine ... UNLESS you want to access or doing practically anything with Yahoo .....Man have I had some fights and have come to HATE Yahoo ....so imagine my sinking thoughts at finding out what was going on. A mate of mine in another group accused me of being the cause of his increase in Spam ....I realised he too was Xtra and gave him a phone call to tell him what was going on. He had downloaded Spamfighter from one of the other lads and so have I....seems simple and I am happy.... with that but furious with Xtra.

I got onto the help desk both people I eventually got in touch with were remarkably placid given the hell they must be going through. It seems they had not been briefed about the VASTLY IMPROVED situation and so I congratulated them on their demeanour wished them all the best and left them to it. I then tried to fumble my way through Xtra and just went round and round in a deadend. i then thought I had done something wrong in the computer set up and have now seemingly stuffed that up too. Luckily I have a laptop and so just used Outlook on that having downloaded "Spamfighter" straight away. At least I can do e-mails.

How in the hell can we bombard Xtra and let them know if we had wanted ruddy Yahoo we would be using it direct. Xtra was brilliant as it was why oh why did some twerp ( boy he's/ she's getting called some seafaring terms under my breath!!!) decide to create this BRILLIANT !!! stuff up.

The small print on Yahoo and Xtra will give Consumer magazine a feast of material for years to come. I am sure it breaks every rule in the book ...

I DO NOT WANT YAHOO .... IWANT XTRA AS IT WAS. :waughh:

An interesting mixture of "xxxx" for them to fix, eh?
Not even the same symptoms for everyone...

I'm being asked to press the Connect button each time I enter IE (Normally it connects automatically) but my saved password does then work, so that's no biggie & I'm luckier than you there.
Spam is still pouring in - presumably the stuff previously filtered out to my webmail spam folder - and I see they've made an apology for that.

I did think of Marnie's sensible suggestion just after posting earlier - and did get my test returned OK.

Glad I don't work for Xtra's PR team. Tomorrow could be a rocky day...

582293 2007-08-19 11:05:00 I too cannot send mail via Outlook and pop3. But there is light at the end of this tunnel--I found the place in the bubble where you can forward your email someplace else, someplace that works. Like gmail, or your work account.:groan:
How come nothing on the bubble site says it isn't working?
Bubble has a bad implication when combined with pop...

582294 2007-08-19 11:13:00 I just upgraded a friends Thunderbird, and felt somewhat sheepish at the pile of spam trying out Thunderbird's untrained filter. Then a copy of all sent and received email for the last 20 days arrived, and when it refused to send email, my star was not looking too bright. :groan:
Normally I instinctively blame Xtra / Telescam / Bill Gates for this sort of kerfuffle, but the timing sure pointed to me today. :angry
Ah well, it appears my standard channels of blame are correct again.

I think you need to take chill pill, rather than venting with your first post .

582296 2007-08-19 14:24:00 Got caught in same trap. Seriously thinking now about changing ISPs - if it wasn't for the hassle of email addresses, I'd be gone in a flash.

For anyone having problems sending mail (after you signed for 'bubble' - no choice really except live with the spam) - here's some info.

New smtp server - it's now send.xtra.co.nz
If you have firewall issues getting mail out - you'll notice it's now setup SSL on port 465.
pop3 server still the same address - but also now SSL on port 995

Nice of them to tell us all this in advance (heavy sarcasm intended) - and even nicer to be given a choice.

I had to search for all of above tips by wading through the yahoo / xtra 'incredibly badly put together' website. Then I had to reconfigure my firewall (Linux) to send any mail at all.

Hope this helps someone.

582297 2007-08-19 22:04:00 I had no problems with Outlook Express or Webmail but could not send in Thunderbird . No answers from Xtra on this but there is a simple work around given to me by a friend .

1 . In Thunderbird go to Tools .
2 . Click on Account Settings .
3 . In the left hand part of the Account Settings box click on Outgoing Server .
4 . On the right hand side under the resultant 'Outgoing Server (SMTP) Settings' click on 'Edit' .
5 . A SMTP Server box opens .
6 . Under heading 'Security and Authentication' unclick 'Use Name and Password' box .
7 . Click on OK in both open boxes .
8 . Send yourself a trial e-mail to check that problem solved .

It is not your SMTP settings or your anti-virus or firewall software or whatever else the help desk tries to tell you it is .

Xtra was brilliant as it was

Brilliant? Xtra is Telecom . You a fan of our 3rd world phone/internet system are you?

As for telling them you aren't happy . , as I (wearily) tell people all the time . If you want chnage then take your phone and internet services to another company . Money talks . Telecom couldn't care less while they still receive masses of money from people like you .

582299 2007-08-19 23:42:00 This may be "Brilliant" as used by Basil Fawlty perhaps?
If Xtra treated a pet with the arrogant indifference with which they treat their clients we would have quite an outcry. I imagine the tranquiliser tanker is making a few calls at Xtra helpdesk centers today.
