582554 2007-08-19 05:44:00 It was always a marketing choice for Apple - and it has gotten them a very tiny corner of the market.

Me, I don't want to shave my head and wear red rectangular spectacles and a polo-neck sweater, so I'll stick with PCs...

That would be a very profitable corner of a growing market.
I don't know anybody who is forced to use a Mac or is restricted to what they can/can't do on one - except get viruses and malware. (We can even use Windows natively on the Mac:eek: )

your ****ing with me right. What makes you think that describes a mac user. If you were to go on sterotypes, I would be the least likely person to be using one. I wouldn't be surprised if I looked in a mirror the reflecction coming back could be Metla(No offence Metla, I'm sure your better looking)
My shaved head is purely for the tough look, not because I'm going bald:D

You don't know any gamers then.

And I run antivirus software on my machines - but not in the background because I can't be arsed with the overhead. I run scans now and again, I scan every downloaded executable file (takes a second or two).

Haven't had a virus or any malware on my machines for six years - and that's over several machines. It simply hasn't been a problem for me with XP.

Most of the PF1 Forum.:D
I was going to include every exception in my reply but figured I would rather give you some credit...guess not. :p

Although you can play games on the Mac, most Mac users I know of would recommend getting a PC for more serious gaming and unfortunately while you yourself my have been malware free for the last 6 years or so, the world's PC botnets keep growing so there must be a few million infested PCs out there somewhere. No need to scan downloads on a Mac.

582560 2007-08-19 14:42:00 Holy Crap! I tried configuring a Mac Pro to the standards I would imagine someone editing multiple streams of HD Video like winmacguy keeps banging on about and... My God.

Could someone not get a proper PC with good software for NZ$10000+? $600 for a 750GB HDD? What are they, made out of pure rubidium and encased in aerogel? Damn, I'd get so get a PC and 3-4 huge LCD's for that price.

582561 2007-08-19 22:06:00 You can custom build a Mac, using 2nd hand parts of Trade me although to really custom build your own computer and call it a Mac would be outside Apple's design ethos. You would also be doing very well to beat Jonny Ive CBE.
en.wikipedia.org known as Jonny Ve, he only changed his name because Jobs told him to back in the late 90s. Now his name is Jonathan iVe.

Why not try it if you think there is an oportunity, bearing in mind that you can actually use any suitable 30" monitor on a MacPro or PC for that matter. Apple monitors are not the cheapest. The MacPro case is made of aluminum.

The software (Adobe Premier Pro for PC) is not the problem so much as the PC hardware's ability to handle multiple HD streams which is what a MacPros strong point is. If you can put these specs into a PC for sub 5k then go for it

Remember that you would be using XP Pro 64bit as Vista doesn't do HD Video, I am not sure what the maximum amount of HD streams that XP pro will handle.
