581707 2007-08-18 08:58:00 They could have always used Macs to do all that stuff like broadcasting and editing etc and used Windows for the rest but they didn't. They went with Windows all the way.

Adobe Premier does a very good job on video editing which I know most Windows orientated stations use including TVNZ and TV3 (I think). The benefit of using Macs, Xserves and FCP2 www.apple.com is that you can handle a greater amount of simultaneous HDvideo streams on a MacPro than a PC without it crashing under the load.

581708 2007-08-18 12:31:00 couldn't they just build/buy a gruntier pc? motorbyclist (188)
581709 2007-08-18 21:19:00 It's not the gruntier PC that is the problem (and yes they probably could), it is the stability of the OS under consistently heavy loads running 8+ Gigs of RAM and several RAM intensive video apps 8 hours a day that is the issue. In this situation the MacPro is less expensive than the PC in US $. MacPros also handle a higher number of HD video feeds better than PCs which max out at 4 or 8 I think.
MacPro specs here www.apple.com

581714 2007-08-21 02:56:00 lol.

Funny, though, In IE norton blocks it, in firefox, adblock plus blocks it.

If I turn the ad blocks off, the video loads

I think I originally got it via Yahoo financial news (great for watching stock prices)

581716 2007-08-21 04:50:00 Try Google finance, gives Yahoo Finance a definite run for its money. Its syncs very nicely with any news stories which might have causes the share price to move. beeswax34 (63)
