Intel usually holds a design comp once a year with a $1 million US first prize.

Yeah, and none of them looked remotely like a Mac... go figure.

582545 2007-08-19 03:36:00 That would be because it was open to each person's interpretation of the design brief. I'm still waiting to see the winning concept go into mass production....go figure. The initial attempt that Intel showed off copied the concept of the Mac mini but wasn't as refined. winmacguy (3367)
582546 2007-08-19 03:53:00 Less of a jump? You can't get Mac OS working on any PC machines -And you probably never will
You have been able to ever since OS X was x86-ified (in an illegal capacity, of course), I'm sure we've already gone over this (pressf1.co.nz).

The only other thing I have read is that the beta of Parallels 3 is pretty rough.Yeah, looks like VMware Fusion (www.vmware.com) is gonna take market share from Parallels, poor guys.

I was meaning in a legal sense, I am aware that it has been done numerous times illegally. I will be interested to see what Apple does with Leopard with regards to running Windows apps natively as I gather they are making substantial progress in this area.

Very entertaining.

582552 2007-08-19 05:02:00 Nice if you could custom build a Mac.
Configure a Mac Pro over here (store.apple.com). You might as well load in two quad-core Xeons, 16 GB of RAM and two 30" HD displays while you're at it, it's a nice way to spend $20,000 :2cents:

You can, mostly theoretically, run OSX on the x86 instruction set. But where are the OSX drivers for my sound card, or that sound card etc?

And some geeks might be doing it as proof of concept - but there are not thousands of PC users running OSX on their machines. Nor will there ever be. The PC architecture is pretty much wide open. The Mac architecture isn't. It was always a marketing choice for Apple - and it has gotten them a very tiny corner of the market.

Me, I don't want to shave my head and wear red rectangular spectacles and a polo-neck sweater, so I'll stick with PCs...
