2007-08-18 04:15:00 | So what about all the links you always post saying how companies are switching to Macs? Companies = Corporate, no? Indeed Companies = Corporate but the interest is from the IT dept starting to look at the Apple option since Vista is not impressing anyone rather than Apple chasing corporates with deals.

2007-08-18 04:21:00 | the truth is that if beijing was to go apple they would more than triple the IT costs That would depend on what they were using Macs for. If it was for the broadcasting side of things they would actually find the setup to be very cost competitive.

2007-08-18 06:14:00 | :groan: Why do you not think this is possible? Apple's Xserve setup and licensing combined the the MacPro and FCP2 with Quicktime streaming provides a cheaper combination than any PC equivalent for media broadcasting. www.apple.com Xserve RAID www.apple.com FCP2 store.apple.com

2007-08-18 06:35:00 | I'm not claiming they are good at it, I know they're good at it, as does the BBC which is why they use Macs in a number of areas of their broadcasting. They used Apple for the editing and broadcasting of the Tour du France. | winmacguy (3367) | |
2007-08-18 06:47:00 | My guess for the reason that Apple are not being used, asked to or considered for the vendor of choice for the 2008 Olympics (aside from the fact that they are not chasing the corporate side of IT) would be for the lack of CRM database type software that is standard in the Windows arena for logging in and keeping track of all the althleletes doesn't have a Mac equlivalent apart from apps like Filemaker Pro. | winmacguy (3367) | |
2007-08-18 08:34:00 | They could have always used Macs to do all that stuff like broadcasting and editing etc and used Windows for the rest but they didn't. They went with Windows all the way. | beeswax34 (63) | |
2007-08-18 08:50:00 | I think they are just not using vista as xp does the job fine. | rob_on_guitar (4196) | |
