| 581578 | 2007-08-16 13:13:00 | Several Years ago I purchased a Nikon F90 Camera from a parallel importer. It developed a software fault, Nikon's NZ Agents and the Nikon NZ Service Agents refused to entertain even looking at the camera - they had no obligation to do so - Nikon Japan took the attitude that their International Warranty did not cover repairs where the item had been sourced from a cheap Asian source and imported in competition with their authorised distributor in NZ. The importer had to re-export the item to get it repaired - Fortunately I managed to get satisfaction, a full refund, by threatening the parallel importer with action under the Consumer Guarantees Act, but I had quite a fight to do so. I understand Canon has the same approach. It is a case of "caveat emptor" - you generally get what you have paid for. |

Penny wise - pound foolish. Yes, I used to be in retail and have dealt with things going wrong for clients. I am not saying the retailer has to bend over, either forwards or backwards, to make the client happy. I am saying that they should be polite, keep the customer informed, own up to their mistakes/omissions and the people in charge front up to the customer instead of running for cover behind an e-mail address and fax machine. It has already cost them about $4,000.00 in sales from my 'recommendations' to friends not to buy from them. As the phone cost me less than $600.00 I believe that I am well ahead of the game :D |

| 581580 | 2007-08-16 21:23:00 | I bought some car speakers off them (through TradeMe) a while back. They didn't send them at first, and I had to send an email to remind them. They supposedly courierd them to me right after I emailed, but another three days later they arrived. The product itself was great, but the service was abominable.:( | wratterus (105) | ||

It is not that they are cheaper than proper shops, quite the reverse. The "other brand" 'phone shop in Birkenhead is also keen to avoid spinal injury by any backward leaning exercises, their exercise all comes from sidestepping and duck-shoving. Perhaps a better way may be to show the staff a banana before any negotiations so they are aware of the chance of a reward if things go well. |

Do you expect the same level of service and attention from McDonalds that you would get from Antoine's? No. You want quality service and back-up, then buy from a more respected (and more expensive) provider. I empathise with your situation, but don't knock Ted coz he states what you should, and probably do, already know. Lecture over! :D |

The model is now almost half the price from them (and other dealers), so you couldn't even say I got a good deal. Comparing Antoines with McDs is a bit off as well... a parallel import store and 'respected' store should have much more comparible levels of service. And yes, if McDs staff treated me like crap it wouldn't matter if I'd only forked out for a Big Mac- it's still bad service. |

| 581586 | 2007-08-17 01:16:00 | I bought a Panasonic stereo head from parallel importer North Shore thru Trade Me. It lasted a week before the cd player starting skipping then stopped, a few weeks later the display went then it didnt receive radio stations. Emailed the importers and got the runaround, had as much chance of getting it fixed as finding snow balls in hell. Moved on went to Super Cheap auto and bought Sony it goes sweet. Dont know latin that well but there some old saying about buyer beware. tedheath |

However you do know that I will come over and personally reposition your brain if you buy a shiney new camera or something from them after this :D :D You should contact Consumer, even if you have to join up for a few months. I think they have already done some letters with people with similar problems. Personally I would keep everything in writing, including the difficulties contacting their owners. I would writeto the owner and tell them that will give them one final chance and will then take them to the disputes tribunal, and will also report them to the commerce commission. That should get some results. |
