760619 2009-03-30 00:35:00 Afternoon all...

Parents have a massive LP and tape collection they want put onto CDs, aswell as in MP3 format on the computer so the music can be put onto MP3 players and MP3 CDs.

I've got them set up using Audacity at the moment, with the LAME codec installed, and its doing the job well. They start the tape or record, then hit record on audacity. When the track finishes, they hit stop and then record again, to start the 2nd track. Repeat until tape or record is finished, then file -> export multiple.

Would it be easier for them to record one long track and then split it? If so, whats the easies way of doing that?

If theres anyone who does this a lot and has any tips or pointers for making it easier that would be great, or even if theres some more perferable software for acomplishing this task. They'd be happy to pay for something.

Cheers. :)

760620 2009-03-30 00:40:00 I wouldnt record it in one track. It maybe OK, but then if the file gets too big, if you havent got a lot of ram, you may run out of ram

Does it have a gap between tracks option?

They have my old PC so its still pretty grunty. (P4 3Ghz Dual core, 2GB RAM, 7600GT...)

760624 2009-03-30 01:10:00 Thats the stuff.

Didn't actually realise there was a whole wiki page for Audacity.

That will help no end. :)
