581379 2007-08-15 11:42:00 Hi guys & girls,

Is switching provider a painless affair? I heard you switch before you let your current provoder know so they dont cut you off therefore giving you a reconnection fee.

Anyone done this lately?

TIA:thumbs:

Oh I should mention this is for broadband. Cheers

581380 2007-08-15 19:18:00 When I decided to drop Slingshot, I just rung Orcon, told them I wanted to change broadband providers (to Orcon). I also opted for their phone line as well (made the broadband cheaper).
All I had to do was answer their questions (to set up an account), and left them to it. They told me within 2 weeks I would be swapped over, I think it was approx 24 hours later. Don't know if there was any downtime on the phone (doubtful), and there was a 20 minute downtime for the broadband switch.

Only after I was on Orcon did I ring Slingshot, and that was just to settle accounts and make sure everything was cancelled

581381 2007-08-16 04:49:00 I switched to Callsouth from Telecom. No hassles. Just filled in the details (over the phone) and voila!. Now my bills come from Oamaru.

Oh, and I had to reconfigure my router.

Not really, do expect to be asked the question "Why are you changing/dropping us?" It's usual for most ISP's though

Don't expect them to be too friendly either, I noticed a slight terseness, after I told them I was going with another ISP

581384 2007-08-18 10:53:00 Yea, because I dont make toll calls Im constantly getting letters asking why. I say I dont use my homeline for calls, just net. Yet they still send these letters. rob_on_guitar (4196)
581385 2007-08-18 21:30:00 Be careful with some ISPs with regards to the $10 discount if you use tolls with them. My ISP Actrix don't care less whether you make tolls calls with them or not just as long as you are signed up to do so to get the discount. I believe Telstra/Clear add a percentage to your bill by the number of toll calls you make, so if you don't make any for a particular month you don't get any discount.

The way I read Telstraclears T/C's, If you spend less than $10 on tolls in a month, then the amount that makes it up to $10 will be added to your Bill.
