761964 2009-04-03 04:39:00 Hi, All. I'm hoping you can help me out with this one. I have AMD Athlon 3200+, XP SP3 1.0Gb RAM, NVIDEA GeForce FX5200 desktop machine with an AOC LM726 monitor. It's given trouble free running since new (4 years ago).

Last several days it has performed as follows; Monitor is left on when computer itself is off; Monitor goes to 'yellow' light; When it's on, it goes 'green'; Anyway, on the first boot up of the day (around 0600 hours) monitor light goes 'green', 'Windows' screen comes up for a few seconds with the progress bar (all normal); That's followed by the 'Welcome' screen for about three seconds (which is shorter period than usual), then goes blank (with no light, whatsoever) although 'green light' remains; By normal standards, progress gets to the 'desktop' and the computer, itself, idles, but there's nothing on the monitor.

The only way I can get it to work normally, is to switch off the computer using the power button (and the 'No signal' comes up on the monitor as it shuts down), and then re-boot. Second and subsequent boot ups are OK.

Any ieas? Yell, if you need more details. Cheers.

761965 2009-04-03 04:46:00 Try reinstalling the graphics drivers.

See if it happens when you boot in safe mode. Tap F8 on startup and select "safe mode"

761966 2009-04-03 04:58:00 I should add (because I can't work out how to edit my post) that if you turn monitor off, then on again, when it is blank, the screen is shown for about 3.0 seconds, also, then goes blank, again. Cheers. A Team (13613)
761967 2009-04-03 06:47:00 check resolution or you have the correct monitor output if there is more than one video connector/card. failing that check video card williamF (115)
761968 2009-04-03 06:53:00 My Viewsonic monitor had similar symptoms and it got gradually worse.
Turns out the capacitors were dying so it was a repair job under warranty.

761969 2009-04-03 07:17:00 Could either be a graphic card or Monitor - had several FX5200's die lately.

One easy way to check, if you have another monitor, attach that, and see if it does it as well - if it does, then its more than likely the card.

There is only one video card. What resolution should I be looking for? How do I 'check video card'? Cheers.

761971 2009-04-03 10:40:00 The maximum your screen supports generally.

Right click Desktop>Properties>Display Settings

761972 2009-04-03 10:43:00 make sure the card and cable are seated properly and appropriate connectors plugged in, including the auxiliary power plug if it is available on the card and an available "molex" power connector or dedicated monitor card power plug. most monitors these days should handle at least 1024x768 and up to probably 2048x1536 more or less (correct me if im wrong) set resolution to 1024x768 or 800x600 (if you can) usually by going into safe mode VGA mode etc williamF (115)
761973 2009-04-03 10:48:00 The GeForce FX5200 doesn't need a molex/6pin connector.

Most monitors these days are between 1280x768/1024 and 1920x1080

Its unlikely to be a resolution problem as a power cycle seems to fix it.

May be a hardware issue with the graphics card, set it to the lowest possible resolution and try. If you can, get hold of anotehr monitor
