| 761053 | 2009-03-31 20:01:00 | Hi Team, The booklet that comes with my Seagate Freeagent 250Gb external HDD indicates that two connections should be made with the USB cable. One for data and the other for power, indeed, the cable is double headed and marked data and power. My external HDD seems to work OK with only the one cable (data) connected. Is there a good reason for the double connection ? I don't have an additional USB socket on my machine. I tried both on a friends computer and didn't notice any difference in the operation. | 761054 | 2009-03-31 21:19:00 | The other one is just for older pcs without enough power on one USB port, therefore needing another. With most laptops/desktops these days 1 USB plugged in is sufficient power. Blam |
