| 583954 | 2007-08-23 00:18:00 | We should pay by due date, but it is only essential monopolies like power and phone that can get away with these "extra" charges ! Regards Digby |

| 583955 | 2007-08-23 00:20:00 | Whatever I am "used to paying by" is my business - what I am merely pointing out is that other telephone companies usualy give you a "friendly warning" and in fact normaly just add it on to your next months account without any so called "late fee" I know for a fact that this is the way Telstra and Ihug do their billing, and I would be surprised if others were any different - other than telecon that is |

This is due to the high costs associated with chasing late payments, and we must recoup this from customers if we are to continue to supply a competitive service for all our customers. You can avoid the possibility of a late payment fee by paying by direct debit. Of course the good news is that you're still in control of your phone costs because you still get mailed a monthly bill with all the details of all your calls. But you don't have to worry about writing cheques or going down to the Post Office because - as you'll see on the bill - it’s all been taken care of. Setting up a direct debit is easy, just visit www.telstraclear.co.nz/go/directdebit or call us on 0508 888 800." |

I am sure most other companies do to. What do you expect if you don't pay you bills on time, these companies have to pay to chase up the debt, and also have to pay their overheads from the money that you haven't yet paid them. I have got no tme for people who don't pay bills on time, and then complain when they are charged a late fee, and a very small one at that. |

| 583960 | 2007-08-23 06:13:00 | I'm guessing that it makes no difference that part of that bill is for internet which is billed in advance? How can it be late when they want their money before they have provided a service? And what a load of crap that they 'must cover their expenses incurred for overdue amounts'... what expenses... the time it takes for a computer to add the $7.50 to the next bill? |

You have obviously never run a business before, because if you had you would know that chasing up late payers to pay their bills requires a significant amount of work and resources. I am sure companies as big as telecom have people whose job is solely chasing up their late payers, which means wages to pay etc. Also the amount of interest lost on the money not being in their accounts on time, would amount to losses in the thousands. |
