| 583752 | 2007-08-22 07:36:00 | Authors of a particularly nasty piece of malware known as Storm Worm have yet again shifted their tactics. They are creating a flood of email hoaxes that try to install a bogus "applet" so victims can redeem membership benefits to clubs related to music, online dating and other interests. "A lot of commonly used antivirus tools don't detect" Storm, Ulrich told The Reg. "The traditional signature approach that some of the antivirus vendors use really isn't all that useful anymore." www.theregister.co.uk Keep an eye out for this one. |

| 583756 | 2007-08-22 10:38:00 | :D What? Only 3/4? Bit slow, I've done 99% From the last sentence of the article:- "For all its sophistication, the malware relies on the oldest trick in the book, which is to socially engineer its victims . Let's be careful out there . ®" From Wikipedia:- "Social engineering is a collection of techniques used to manipulate people into performing actions or divulging confidential information . [1] While similar to a confidence trick or simple fraud, the term typically applies to trickery for information gathering or computer system access and in most cases the attacker never comes face-to-face with the victim . " My thought in the Wikipedia article:- The key word(s) that jump at me are the words "manipulate people into performing actions" More particularly the word "manipulate" . As people we are faced with advertisements every single day . This via the Internet, TV, Radio, Magazines, Unwanted Spam and etcetera . This is manipulation . Eventually some people will sort the wheat from the chaff . That may cost some people some money over time . I am "being careful out there" This is why I backup information I would not like to lose . I agree with what you say PCTEK BTW . Naturally (to me) WINMACGUY's posts appear to be an attempt to manipulate me into investing in other hardware . |

No different to a windows system in my opinion . Use a decent firewall . Use antivirus software . Allow no access to your computer at home apart from just you . And of course, backup your data . Let us not forget that Macs are invulnerable as many virus/trojan writers can not be bothered writing for less people than use a version of Windows . So if you are are a hacker/attacker feel free to attack my system . |

Are you maybe referring to this famous statement by jams in this thread?: pressf1.co.nz That goes like this.... "Hacking a MAC works the same way as a male teenager losing his virginity. Once your in, what the hell are you supposed to do with it ?" Thanks jams :) Using a Mac is kind of like dating a blond... don't expect it to cope with rocket science, that's not what they were designed for. |
