2007-08-28 23:04:00 | ...everyone's page peel pain should be over after Monday... ...and we won't be using the peel again until we can be reassured by our supplier that it's fixed once and for all.Erm, this may be stating the obvious, but it returned as a giant purple blob this morning. The CSS in this post (pressf1.co.nz) will block it. What happened to actually fixing it? Note: This is not an attack on Scott; he's been excellent in following this one up. Thanks :-).

2007-08-28 23:25:00 | Yes it's back, but from a completely different supplier. This one doesn't kill all the links beneath it and seems to work fine for me under Windows/IE7/FF2. Clearly it still affects the likes of Bletch's combination of OS and browser (well...momentarily at least :) ) but I think I'm right in saying that this will only affect a distinct minority of users. If you are in this minority...well, I think Bletch already has you covered  As ever, please keep us informed of any troubles.

I have got the same problem, where it is causing the page to take over 30 seconds to load. It is tryng to load from ads.hosting direct.co.nz but either the ad server is very slow overloaded or it has another problem. I have only ever seem one advert on that peel ad too, where the advertsiser is trying to setup a spam list to 'legally' get a list of email addresses to spam. |

2007-08-29 14:15:00 | I have same problems at Bletch... :-/ On familys XP PC, I hover my mouse above it and it disappears, rather than rolling down.. I like that idea :D

2007-08-29 21:37:00 | I have same problems as Bletch... :-/Anyone using Linux will experience the same problem, because the Linux version of flash doesn't support transparent wmode. As far as I know Adobe has no plans to add this support, so a workaround is needed for Linux clients. Perhaps simply not serving the ad if the UA string reports as Linux would be a good idea? OS detection using this method is very easy, as those who frequent ChatF1 will be aware...

2007-08-31 02:09:00 | Yes it's back, but from a completely different supplier . This one doesn't kill all the links beneath it and seems to work fine for me under Windows/IE7/FF2 . Clearly it still affects the likes of Bletch's combination of OS and browser (well . . . momentarily at least :) ) but I think I'm right in saying that this will only affect a distinct minority of users . If you are in this minority . . . well, I think Bletch already has you covered  As ever, please keep us informed of any troubles . My primary method for browsing PressF1 is via an RSS reader application: FeedDemon . Ever since the Peel-Me started recently, I have been getting Runtime Errors whenever I open a PressF1 thread . When I choose to run the debugger as prompted by the error pop-up, it seems to be falling over on the Java code (which I assume runs the nasty Peel-Me) . I am running XP Pro, SP2 (patches all up-to-date) and Java 6 Update 2 . Interestingly, the only pages I get the runtime errors are PressF1 threads (I have a large number of other subscribed feeds) . FeedDemon uses IE as it's rendering engine . When I read the threads via one of my installed browsers, no problemo . I have used Bletch's lovely CSS for Opera to block the horrible thing and in Firefox I have AdBlock + . Can't say I have even bothered checking reading PressF1 via IE7, but I do have a fairly big Hosts file (thanks to another thread on this forum) blocking ads generally . . . . But it seems that the entry for ads . hostingdirect . co . nz in the hosts file doesn't have any effect on FeedDemon . . . . But the Peel-Me makes using FeedDemon to read PressF1 a waste of time .
