2007-08-24 12:07:00 | I wouldn't mind betting that it (the forum) is seen as a 'cost centre' by the accountants (note lack of capitalization) and will be expected to stand on its own feet financially, so to speak. | zqwerty (97) | |
2007-08-25 00:17:00 | Does pressf1 actually make money? I thought it was here to help users & increase goodwill & demand for the mag, and the advertising was to offset costs. I get a monthly bill from F1 for them letting me post here..don't youse guys?:stare:

2007-08-25 05:47:00 | Does pressf1 actually make money? That's a good one :) Seriously though...everyone's page peel pain should be over after Monday. After we told the company serving the ad about the problems it was causing they then tried to fix the peel and made changes to the live site (not the smartest idea). After we discovered this, Lawrie had them revert to a previous version and got them to stop tinkering on our site (Bletch...this is why the code had changed and your blocker stopped working). Apparently the current ad finishes on Monday and we won't be using the peel again until we can be reassured by our supplier that it's fixed once and for all. Sorry for all the hassle this has caused, we didn't mean to offend anyone...honest! (We try and save our offensiveness for companies that deserve it, like Telecom  ) :)

2007-08-25 07:22:00 | Thanks Scott - your following-up of this one was muchly appreciated . Glad to hear that peel-me won't be causing any more issues. | Erayd (23) | |
2007-08-26 04:59:00 | Well just as Id finally got sick of it and was going to try and sort out how to block it myself with Bletch's code, I hear they're not using it as of Monday, so I think I can last one more afternoon with it. Ads are fine, of course they hafta recover the cost of me hitting F5 xyz number of times during the course of the month on certain threads, plus employing a web-dev and whatnot (Need to look into somebody installing ntpd on the PF1 box thou! 2 minute job, honestly, I could probably do it without root access), but the Peel-me really bites :( My PF1 visiting is less than half the usual when its around Love that Scott & Co. respond so openly / quickly though :) Good on ya fellas

2007-08-26 09:35:00 | im not sure if im the only one but the "peel me" ad really screws my computer ( in signature) over bad - the moment it loads Firefox & IE slow down so much to scroll down the page it takes about 30 seconds to think about things before screaming to the bottom past the bit i want :P was perfectly fine before the peel me ad showed up & the fact no other website does it and if i go away from Pressf1 firefox & IE go back to normal :waughh: it will be great when it dissapears as i will be actually able to trawl though the posts as usual (crikey even writing this text takes 5 or so seconds to show up after i type it  )

(Parser doing that?) My 750 Dell has a small problem but anything faster with more RAM and such does not seem to suffer any slowdown . . at least I can't notice it . I imagine the graphics are swamping the RAM and then make write/read calls to the swap file area and that's what's slowing things down . But . . I say since I am calling long distance and with the 240v/120v problem and translating the text from US English to NZ-Speak might congest the ethernet too not mentioning that the screen image has to be inverted to work correctly here as it comes from Upsidedown Land . . well . . . I can live with a little tardiness somehow . The marvel of electronical thing-ys!!! All those adjustments just so I can read things from a different hemisphere . :p |
