584221 2007-08-24 09:32:00 Having recently returned from Vietnam I have just finished a book from the library - "Rolling Thunder in a Gentle Land". A history of the war from both sides.
I'm now reading,"Freakonomics" - A fun/serious look at economics

584222 2007-08-24 09:37:00 I'm normally a large consumer of Science Fiction/Fantasy and have recently been re-reading Heinelein's classic "Stranger In A Strange Land".

And since I am still in recovery mode from my cycle accident at the end on June, I have just read a really inspiring book: "Lance Armstrong - It's not about the Bike: My journey back to life". Hard to put down.

OK, big title, but even if you're not into cycling as a sport, it is a very moving story of Lance Armstrong and his fight against the cancer that would have killed 97% of 'normal' people (according to his doctors). And yeah, there are some cycling stories either side of the cancer story.... :)

584223 2007-08-24 09:49:00 I've just finished a lovely series of books about characters based in Botswana by the author Alexander McCall Smith - the first being "The No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency". Highly recommended for light reading. They're the sort of stories where you can get really immersed into the characters and their personalities, set against the backdrop of that fascinating country. 584225 2007-08-24 09:59:00 Give Iain Banks a go. He writes both Sci Fi and mainstream novels (one as I M Banks, the other as I Banks). Avoid 'The Wasp Factory' as your first book of him (an acquired taste - I loved it). user (1404)
584226 2007-08-24 10:22:00 Alexander McCall Smith H

Really good books, subtle and funny. They went from about $19 when they first came out and go for about $30

584227 2007-08-24 10:31:00 Some of the Matthew Reilly books are good. Adventure/Action genre. Jen (38)
584228 2007-08-24 10:33:00 If you want something really dark and sombre with a touch of genius then you should read the first two books in the series, starting with "Starfish"

I couldn't stop reading these books and I am totally bored with books, I have been reading them all my life. Exceptional read and totally gripping once you get what he is on about. A dark fantasy.
