584066 2007-08-23 22:00:00 Similar to Greg (www.imagef1.net.nz) - but that's why I have a gmail account. It's great to use for those 'I wonder' type sites because filtering is so great. I haven't 'received' any gmail spam for as long as I can remember - it all stays of the web and just my good email gets downloaded

Gmail's spam filter is great. I don't think I have ever had a spam message leak through their filters. When you think about it, if Google can't produce a system that catches most spam who can!
I recommend to all who ask to use Gmail. It makes your mail address ISP independent. You can chop and change ISP to your hearts content without affecting your mail address. Gmail provides POP and SMTP access as part of their free accounts. Most people don't want more than this.

All true.

I also add that I passage email through Gmail to de-spam them. This is possible because of the free popmail access.

Another bonus is the wonderful filters system. Makes it very easy to quickly see who and where valid email is coming from.

It is a pity about their privacy policies.

Oh yeah. That's true too.

Everything you send and receive on the net should be treated as an open secret nowadays. If you really have something to keep confidential, you will have to encrypt it.

ps - 284 unread messages!:eek:I use SnagIt by Techsmith for screen captures (it does a LOT more besides just image capture), lots of interesting effects you can add to your captures - not free, but relatively cheap.

Yep 284 unread via webmail, 'cos they all (only the non-spam) come down to Outlook on the laptop...

584071 2007-08-24 03:30:00 The original poster appears to be misled as to the origin of a lot of spam, in that it also comes from compromised legitimate company servers, that are used as zombie relays spewing out spam.

I fail to see how any ISP agreement is going to have any effect on those, also those that do use an ISP account hit once and never come back, so closing the account happens already, but only after the horse has bolted.

584072 2007-08-24 03:49:00 Looks like I win/lose (imagehost.cjb.net).

This is the last few days only. I guess one of the bad things about having a good email is every spambot out there knows it :D

584074 2007-08-24 08:15:00 Wow, where do some of you people give your emails out to?

I use Hotmail for my general things, and Gmail for kinda important things (trademe etc) and for the first time in ever using Gmail, I got a 'spam' yesterday, but it only a email telling me an email didn't send.

It was the first time I'd ever seen a number next to spam.
