583314 2007-08-21 08:40:00 A lot of other PC manufactures are slowly starting to notice the success that Apple has been having with its hardware and are starting to copy with their own hardware designs with companies like Dell who bought Alienware a little while back in an attempt to score some of the higher end customers with their products, Dell has also been selling coloured laptops - while having a few issues with the painting process. winmacguy (3367)
583315 2007-08-21 10:59:00 Oh yeah that was weird  maybe they should have given that whole painting thing a twirl before announcing it too all and sundry. Pink one = 11 days delay!!! In the US, you might as well shut down if you have that sort of time delays. beeswax34 (63)

I doubt that. Most designer clothes are still made in sweatshops in China/

DigbyLinux is easy to install; in the vast majority of cases it's actually a fair bit easier to install than Windows. It does run most apps.

The good thing about multiple distros is it's not a 'one size fits all' solution like Windows; trying to please everyone but ending up annoying a lot of people. The downside is that many people can't be bothered figuring out how to choose...

There was talk some (Ballmer IIRC) time back that MS were not trying too hard to prevent piracy in emerging markets because they feared the uptake of other "viral" operating systems in its stead.

583320 2007-08-22 01:29:00 Same reason someone would by a European car- it gets the job done with a bit of style and you have a great time doing it . :)
(Hardware + OS + applications = user experience & productivity):)

I don't agree . . . . . unless the job you need to get done is just down the street or you can show up on the South end of a North-bound tow truck .

Fancy Euro-boxes are not as you depict .

If you buy one . . buy two . . . one to drive and one for spare parts . Get your wife to crochet a cozy for the one that doesn't run . . . better yet, have her make two .

It's not class or prestige . . . unless you think having your favorite mechanic on your quick-dial and your car in the garage for repairs and tune-ups every 5 driving hours is some sort of fun .

Poor alloys, archaic designs, broken bolts and fittings made of Londonderry Fog are NOT quality . They're pitiful!

The ONLY reason to buy Euro-junk is to rub it into the eyes of your neighbors that you are stupid enough or monied enough to afford to be part of the feeding frenzy cast of people who will be required to maintain your vehicle .

Elitist? Snob-value? Showmanship? Self-abuse?

Yes to all .

Same with pimping an orphan OPSYS that only (see the class distinctions about ^) would appreciate . . . not that YOU are any of the above!

Indeed they are but that doesn't stop the designers charging accordingly for the label.

583323 2007-08-22 06:18:00 As I have a considerable investment in applications, all of which run happily under my O/S, why would I change?

If I wanted to I could dual boot but what advantage is this to me? I can see the advantage if drivers are not supplied with legacy hardware for the operating system. Some scanners like Bearpaw (Mustek) were thrown out as Mustek did not supply drivers for WinXP.

I could also get this:-
www.osloader.com

Or any other boot manager for that matter.
Rest assured I will NOT be buying a Mac at any price EVER!!!
