2009-04-03 02:42:00 | I have been with orcon for a long time and have been very happy until earlier this week... I had been on the orcon+ purple plan with is a naked dsl with 15gb data and $1/gb extra data. Suddendly they have switched me to their orcon@home plan with 11gb data and 2/GB extra data and given me a phone line!! all without my knowlege or consent, what the hell? I spent over an hour on hold and got told by the "help desk" that they were sorry they didnt tell me but nothing they can do about it. A customer supervisor is supposed to be calling me back but that hasnt happened. This seems ulterly unacceptable to me but I cant seem to talk to anybody who gives a c**p. Anybody else had these problems with them in the last few weeks? (i am on st helliers exchange)

2009-04-03 05:01:00 | Do you know if Telecom has installed a cabinet in your area in the last few weeks? It might be worth checking: www.telecom.co.nz Good luck :) PS: also if you dont have much luck here It might be also worth posting in the Orcon forum (www.geekzone.co.nz) over on Geekzone (www.geekzone.co.nz)

2009-04-03 05:23:00 | The orcon@home plan isnt on their website, and from what I can see (And having dealt with them quite a bit) none of their plans are 11GB. To be honest, I wouldnt sweat it for the weekend. Carry on as usual, talk to them on Monday, tell them you want to confirm what plan you're currently on. When they've told you, explain to them there's been a mix-up and you didnt want to change, they're pretty helpful and should put you right back, and will possibly even Zero your current usage for the month. Hope this helps Chill.

2009-04-03 06:17:00 | Thanks for the suggestions so far, i'll check the geekzone site as well. I checked the roadside cabinet thingy and got this result: This address is scheduled to be connected to a roadside cabinet with ADSL2+ technology in approximately Jul 2009. It is 11GB because the plan has a 1GB base and they have added a 10GB data pack. Also one other thing I didnt mention is that the speed has dropped to about 2/3 of what it was (this the the modem reported maximum speed) I first contacted them on Wednesday and tried to re-make conatct again today and they have been anything but helpful so far. They have had 2 full days to call me back and havent done so. I suspect these sorts of things go into the too hard basket.... Also I did receive an e-mail some weeks ago which I read when it arrived and indicated that there was some new hardware but no major changes. I'll post it as well in a few minutes.

2009-04-03 06:22:00 | Important Information about your Orcon Account New broadband and telephone equipment has been installed in your area. This work has been carried out in order to shorten the length of the copper line that broadband and telephone services are delivered over. This means that there will be some changes to your service. What will this mean for you? Your monthly base fee will remain the same You'll still have 15GB of data to use each month You'll need to re-enter your modem username and password - if you're unsure how to do this you can call us on 0800 13 14 15 There will be a short period (up to four hours) during which your broadband and telephone service will not work on the day that you are moved over Your invoice will look different to what you usually receive as we'll need to make manual credit adjustments. When will it happen? The change over will occur next week. We will be in contact by email to confirm the exact day with you, so that you can prepare for any disruption this may cause. Remember, when we change you over you'll be unable to use your home phone or broadband for up to four hours, although in most circumstances this will be less than one hour. Please let us know if you have any questions. You can call us on 0800 13 14 15 between 8am to 8pm, 7 days a week. If you'd like to view our terms and conditions you can see them by visiting www.orcon.net.nz/about/Terms_and_conditions. Cheers The Orcon Team So as you can see no mention about the line no longer been naked and they havent even managed to get the 15GB of data correct

2009-04-03 06:41:00 | PS: also if you dont have much luck here It might be also worth posting in the Orcon forum (www.geekzone.co.nz) over on Geekzone (www.geekzone.co.nz) Yes I found a thread there www.geekzone.co.nz which indicates others are having these sorts of issues. This also pointed me this post at orcon www.orcon.net.nz rs/ So even though telecom says there is no cabinet in my area I suspect this is what has happend. Quite simply orcon have done an appalling job of communicating with their customers, although these changes are probably less noticable for people without a naked line... Last post for tonight I promise! I'll let you know how I get on next week (and I just remebered one of my friends friends works for orcon so i am going to try and make contact with him and maybe he can put me onto the right person...) Thanks again for the responses guys.

2009-04-03 07:43:00 | Some time ago I left Xtra for Orcon and signed up for the "All you can eat plan" for around $60 per month. No excess data and no surpises on the bill. I stayed with that until Orcon advised me that I was going to have to pay around $100 per month for the same service. I then went back to Xtra where I have 10Gb capped. Not sure what happens if I exceed that because I haven't done it yet. They seem to have a habit of getting people to sign up then move the goalposts. At least in my case I had notification.

2009-04-03 07:59:00 | Last year when I was trying to open an Orcon free webhost I got a runaround. So I went to the top, the CEO. Iquoted dates of emails & the call numbers. Sorted in no time. Without the ** try... **scott.bartlett@team.orcon.net.nz*.* PJ

2009-04-03 08:36:00 | Just to add a bit more. Some time since I logged on to Orcon Webmail but I think I have that Email for life. The first message was dated 18-07-2006 and the last message was 03-04-2009. Heaps of spam. 3722 messages in that account. Just kept one of them transferred as a file. My inbox is now empty. That will help the servers I hope. Goes off to configure Outlook to check the Orcon account from here on in.

2009-04-03 21:19:00 | Interestingly enough the cabinetization is out of control of Orcons hands, and its quite a sneaky move by Telecom. Its all very well and good that they've had to give other ISPs access to the local Exchanges, but AFAIK its not quite the same story with the roadside cabinets. Unfortunately your situation would have arisen regardless of who you have for an ISP. Again, I'd be interested to hear what they say on Monday, as I've never heard of that plan...
