583741 2007-08-22 08:21:00 been waiting for this camera to reach NZ stores since it was released in US
it finally showed up on warehouse ad today

even after being sold in US for a while now, I still can't find a lot of review for this model online, maybe because it's a cheapy entry level camera, where there buying just buys it on impulse or something..

so I need your help :D just want to ask kodak camera owners, if overall kodak is doing okay in the digital camera field
and the C series cameras, are they total trash or still useful to take some simple snapshots?
also I've heard how their camera tends to break easily.. is that true?

I just want to buy a cheaper camera to carry around to random places
so I don't need to take my proper Canon one everywhere

any comments welcome~

583745 2007-08-22 11:59:00 Well I have a Kodak EasyShare C310 and it is an ok camera. It takes good pictures within its expected performance but what it really needs is an optical zoom. I see that the C613 has this feature and so I would expect that you would be happy with all aspects of the performance of the camera as long as you have not had your expectations raised too high by using much better cameras.

I have seen the model you are wanting to buy in Countdown for $199 and I have been thinking about getting one myself. The C310 cost me $149 just before last Xmas.

583746 2007-08-22 12:04:00 heni72847 if you send me your eMail addy via p.m. I will send you a .pdf I made of the reasons why I am going to upgrade from the one I bought to a better model. There are some lo res pictures but you will still be able to see what my old camera can do, which I imagine will be something like the pictures you will be able to take with the model you are going get. zqwerty (97)
583747 2007-08-22 17:45:00 I have a Kodak C653, and I love it.

I read reviews that it is too fat, thick, bulky and all that..but I find it fits my hand, doesn't slide away when I push a button and is easier to hold on to.

The bulk of it gives me a sense of security that it won't break...and so far it hasn't.

It has both digital and mechanical zoom, room for an extra 2gig of standard SD, not the SD Micro stuff that costs so much yet.

It takes nice long videos with good resolution and zoom and auto-focus.

It can take panoramas, has a plethora of manual settings for just about every conceivable lighting condition.

And taking pictures is free...OK, it uses a few electrons!

The view screen is very large for the price...better than higher costing other cameras...and it also has a viewfinder! That isn't on many middle priced digitals any more. It's a great way to save batteries when you can shut off the view screen!

I also bought 4 sets of rechargeable batteries (and it uses AA's, not some propitiatory junk battery that cost an arm and a leg), and a dual source charger. I can charge batteries in my home or the car.

Battery life is very good..I can create a 45 minute video on one charge and one 2gig stick even with the view screen on.

What I don't like: The Time-On setting. If you are downloading the pixs or vids via the USB cord, the camera's longest run time is 3 minutes. So...if you are dumping a file into your puter, the camera will shut off automatically at 3 minutes and spoil the upload.

This default time thing does not affect the use of the camera....especially in VID mode..it will run until the batteries die. As long as it is doing something besides uploading files or vids it will stay on.

Use a USB-type card reader and just collect the output that way. It's easier.

I found that I can also use a SD slot in a printer for the same purpose. The puter just sees it as another harddrive and you have full access to it bi-directionally.

The camera also does NOT recharge on the USB cable either. Keep that in mind.

1-to-10, I give it a 9+

583748 2007-08-22 18:05:00 Addendum:

The Kodak EasyShare C613 is an all-purpose solution for users who seek compact design and exceptional value, 6.2 Megapixel resolution, 3x optical and 5x digital zoom, large 2.4-inch LCD display, 15 fps VGA with audio capture, and a wealth of on-camera picture-enhancing features.

So..it has zoom, both mechanical and digital.

The rest of the stuff appears to be about the same as my C653, but no viewfinder.

583750 2007-08-23 12:18:00 I found 2 user reviews of the camera last night (i actually thought I posted them in this thread) both were very positive, They only negative was in relation to the manual and in some cases the darkness of video files when recorded in low light situations (DOH!)
