583290 2007-08-21 04:51:00 I have recently gotten sky. Stupidky I did not get the techs to wire to two points in my house and now i must do it myself to run a freeview box in the bedroom.

I understand it was difficult to do prior to August as Sky was running with vertical polarity and now switched to horozontal polarity.

Thats fantastic it should all work but i have been unable to find a guide on how to do it. For example where should the splitter be installed? Any special equipment required? Any help is much appreciated!!!

583291 2007-08-21 05:12:00 cant understand why you'd want 'freeview' as well as sky when sky has all those channels that freeview has and more...... drcspy (146)
583292 2007-08-21 05:24:00 I assume your interested in freeview for the bedroom, instead of adding another skybox at $25 per month .

I am after the same thing, so great if anyone out there has any experience on using splitters .

583293 2007-08-21 05:48:00 It would pay to buy a freeview decoder for the bedroom and then its yours to keep. To split the cables is easy all you do is put the splitter on the existing sky cable in the lounge and then get another length of cable and put that onto the other output of the splitter and presto you have freeview.

it makes no difference as to what channels you get as the freeview decoder will know which signal is what and you will still get all the freeview channels as well as the v8 supercars channel which sky does not carry at the moment.

Hope this helps.

583294 2007-08-21 07:32:00 cant understand why you'd want 'freeview' as well as sky when sky has all those channels that freeview has and more......I don't have either, but I suspect given the ridiculous amount of visible compression on Sky broadcasts, it wouldn't be hard for the Freeview broadcasts to look a lot better (and I gather from what I have read this is the case). That would be one good reason, although it appears in this case itxtme simply wants FTA in his bedroom rather than paying for another Sky box. maccrazy (6741)
583295 2007-08-21 08:59:00 Note: The splitter must be 'dc-pass all channels' as the sky and freeview box supply 15v to the dish and the voltage will be blocked by the splitter if it's not dc-pass. pine-o-cleen (2955)

As i do not wish to pay for a second decoder from sky but still want digital quality of the free channels!

Many thanks all for the info people, will give it a go in the next few days!

Thanks again

583297 2007-08-22 06:17:00 A good reason to have SKY and Freeview is to be able to record one channel and watch another. You could record your freeview channel and watch sky, or vice versa. radium (8645)
