762608 2009-04-06 00:08:00 I am trying to use WMP 11 to play commercial DVD Movies . They play
o . k . but too much saturation and dull . There are 4 controls below the
screen, Brightness, Contrast, Hue and Saturation . These are not
working . Sound is O . K . because I installed AC3 filter .

Can any one explain why these controls don't work .

Cyberlink Power DVD Ver . 5 which came with my burner works fine .
I am using XP and am at a loss to understand why the 4 controls I
mentioned don't work . If they don't work, what is the purpose of
having them .

Thank you

762610 2009-04-06 01:33:00 VLC is a great program, the latest version (0.9.9) fixed a couple of annoying bugs too, its really good now.

However, if you want to use WMP, try installing the k-lite codec pack (www.free-codecs.com) (direct link), and see if that helps at all with the video playback.

762611 2009-04-06 06:00:00 I downloaded VLC and it works very well. But am interested in knowing why WMP with its 4 controls won't work. Microsoft put them there for some purpose surely, and I fail to understand why I have to use another program for DVD's when WMP is already there. Maybe some plug in is missing or my video card is not good enough.
Thank you for your help.

762612 2009-04-06 06:05:00 WMP isnt exactly the best program to use for DVD. You probably still need codecs or something for certain things to work Speedy Gonzales (78)
762613 2009-04-06 08:20:00 Yes and some of the things that don't work on it, you have to pay for the add on, for it too work.

762614 2009-04-06 08:32:00 I find Mplayer best for movie watching;) Blam (54)
762615 2009-04-06 08:47:00 Does your video codec have a separate configuration panel outside of WMP?

You may need to adjust the settings while the media is not playing, otherwise you may not see a difference

762616 2009-04-10 08:20:00 At last I have workrd out why the 4 controls won't work with a standard DVD. They will only work with a Windows Media Video WMV. I converted a small portion of a standard DVD and everything works perfectly. Brightness,Contrast, Saturation and Hue. And there dosn't seem to be any codecs around which will allow the controls to work with Mpeg's.
Thanks for all the help and suggestions.

762617 2009-04-10 10:27:00 I find media player classic the best for almost everything and think it is better than vlc You can get it at cccp.org. that's combined community codec pack. It comes with two players and will play 109 different file types. Its free too. Roger Hunt (13648)
