| 762319 | 2009-04-04 11:34:00 | Hey guys just an old computer i got from an uncles work, since they've upgraded everything... i've got this mobo: www.gigabyte.com.tw(rev2.x)_big.jpg with 1gb ram. ATM its got 4IDE drives, and 1IDE dvdwriter connected to it. An Intel (D, C2D - i dont know what kind of processor is attached) 3.0GHZ processor is attached as well. Computer powers on fine, posts fine too. When booting from an ubuntu CD it dies at the hardware detection phase - so upgraded bios to the latest version and now it goes about 20% into the detection and then dies. What would be the cause of this? For problem solving sake, i've removed power from hdd and the ide cable off the mobo (which have the hdd's connectd to them). Still the same error. Any help is greatly appreciated. |

| 762320 | 2009-04-04 20:53:00 | hmmm after waking up thinking it wass 8.30am, i went ahead and changed the drives and guess what it works. Now, the computer has 2 satas and 4 IDE drives... and nothing is connected to the master IDE channel. hmmm, I think maybe the master controller on the IDE port 0 is not working. how can we verify this? electronically? |

So if there's 4 IDE whatever, what are 2 connected to?? If you think IDE0 is dead? The Master IDE channel also applies to SATA (since SATA are only Masters, not Slave). |
