| 762240 | 2009-04-04 07:11:00 | My son went into the HKEY_ and deleted everything thing he could. Then proceeded to restart and go into BIOS and mess everything up. Is their anyway to restore/reformate to default windows XP. I'm not sure where my windows xp boot disc is. Its a Systemax with an upgraded videocard dvd-rom 1gig of ram If it matters. Thanks |

| 762243 | 2009-04-04 07:58:00 | First of all never let your Son near the computer again. Get the BIOS correct back to default settings then check the boot order and make any other changes as required in the BIOS first. Boot order should be CD then Hard drive then Floppy. Insert the Windows XP and try recovery first. That is if you can find the CD. To help you we need as much info as what you can supply. I would think that you are not worried about data on the PC because you have backups or copies do you not. What CDs or DVDs do you have? Do you have recovery discs and / or application discs? Motherboard drivers? |

Motherboard drivers? Ok I've got into BIOS set it back to defaults . I've setup the boot order and saved it . Now I go to start the computer it has its screen then goes to the foxxcon thing then to a black screen that reads "Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: /WINDOWS/system32/config/SYSTEM you can attempt to repair this file by starting Windows Setup using the original Setup CD-ROM . Select 'r' at the first screen to start repair . " I havn't located my XP boot disc or CD-ROM thingie . Sorry for me not being tech savvy . I have read on some PC's their is a "hidden part of the harddrive" where the original OS or what not is and if you push a certain set of keys on the start up screen you can restore it? Also I did not have any Important data on the computer . It was his for gaming but now I'm going to use it . THanks |

Press Del and it will take you into BIOS. Other than that it just goes to the black screen in the post above. If I must have a xp reboot cd I'll have my wife find it tomaro. |

| 762247 | 2009-04-04 08:48:00 | Try making a boot disk either Floppy or CD so you can boot. Then make a batch file with the following comands. Recover XP System batch file md tmp copy c:\windows\system32\config\system c:\windows\tmp\system.bak copy c:\windows\system32\config\software c:\windows\tmp\software.bak copy c:\windows\system32\config\sam c:\windows\tmp\sam.bak copy c:\windows\system32\config\security c:\windows\tmp\security.bak copy c:\windows\system32\config\default c:\windows\tmp\default.bak delete c:\windows\system32\config\system delete c:\windows\system32\config\software delete c:\windows\system32\config\sam delete c:\windows\system32\config\security delete c:\windows\system32\config\default copy c:\windows\repair\system c:\windows\system32\config\system copy c:\windows\repair\software c:\windows\system32\config\software copy c:\windows\repair\sam c:\windows\system32\config\sam copy c:\windows\repair\security c:\windows\system32\config\security copy c:\windows\repair\default c:\windows\system32\config\default Or you can just boot off bootable media and type in the above commands. |

| 762249 | 2009-04-04 09:03:00 | Blam6. I have no idea how you can download guided help when Windows does not start. I also note that part of the solution may be the batch file I posted. All the poster has to do now is to create bootable media and type in each individual command or run a batch file. |
