| 585545 | 2007-08-28 09:40:00 | This has been done to death Yeah, but he's new, so lets humor him. It is possible things have changed since the last thread like this. Download Speed:2629kbps Upload Speed:1300kbps Those are pretty good speeds for this time of the day, although I assume you are using a New Zealand location to test, which doesn't really show much as 90% of what you access isn't located here. For me Auckland is average: Down: 1411kbps Up: 125kbps But more important is your international connection speed, especially to US data centers, which in my case is pretty appalling (though not unexpected, given the fact it is the evening on a week day): Dallas: Down: 554kbps Up: 123kbps Austin: Down: 939kbps Up: 65kbps LA: Down: 966kbps Up: 107kbps I'm on the TelstraClear cable 10mbit plan. What do you get with international locations? I'm assuming that given you never hear any complaints from Telstra customers, they buy more international capacity than Telecom does so it probably isn't too bad. |

| 585546 | 2007-08-28 12:18:00 | From really good US servers (like Microsoft) I get around 500KB/sec which is great. In bittorrent, from a heap of international peers, I'll get about 1MB/sec if there are enough peers/seeds. Overall, though, I usually get around 100-200KB/sec downloading things from overseas websites. In speed tests based in the US I get about 600KB/sec IIRC. I'm very happy with the connection. Prior to this I was on JetStream (or BitStream) and it was crap. 200KB/sec was perfectly common, but the page loading times were terrible as it seemed that the high latency got in the way of downloading the many pictures, etc, on a normal web page. On cable, pages load almost instantly. |
