| 585331 | 2007-08-27 23:31:00 | I have a working wireless 11b/g home network comprising two pc's with the main household tv roughly mid-way between the two. The TV is a reasonably recent CRT with component input, PC's have video cards (ATI9600 & nVidia FX5200) with SVideo output. What is the best method to wirelessly stream music/video from either of these pc's to the tv? Ascent for example has relatively expensive media receivers which seem to fit the bill and Trademe offers rather less expensive sender/receiver combos which also sound like they should work. Would someone who has tried this care to offer some advice on the best option? (on a modest bgt) |

| 585333 | 2007-08-28 01:42:00 | You can get media devices like the D-Link DSM-320 or Netgear EVA-7000 or EVA-8000. I have used a few of them and while they work they do have some quirks and not very user friendly at times. They have problems sometimes with some video files. Also not very cheap. I use an original Xbox with a modchip running Xbox Media Center as this plays anything and everything :p It is attached to a wireless access point which is configured in WDS mode to another access point, which has the PCs and broadband router connected to it. |

| 585339 | 2007-08-28 09:38:00 | Bgt would be about half the price of the Apple option, say $200 or so. Different rooms so needs to penetrate walls. I rather hoped there would be a simple option but maybe not. I have an older pc with Ti4200 graphics that could act as a media server with the addition of a pci wireless adaptor. I could park that alongside the TV and connect via hard wire but I was hoping for something less obtrusive. |
