762186 2009-04-06 06:50:00 I use both XP and Vista and W7 - out of Vista and XP, I have more lockups and problems with programs crashing than any of the Vista PC's.

One of the funny things I hear - Some customers say Vista is crap - when asked why they say that, the usual response is along the lines of "because others say it is" - so they never actually have tried it.

762187 2009-04-06 07:03:00 The reason im a bit reluctant of Ubuntu is the fact ive never used it before. From the looks of things, Vista does not look so bad :)

Just a question, Does Ubuntu support most hardware?

762188 2009-04-06 07:16:00 It's run on every machine I have tried it on so far and that's quite a few with odd specs. It's free to try so what have you to loose anyway you can run it off the CD without installing it to see if it runs on your hardware. You don't even need the hard drive attached gary67 (56)

Yes, its a very popular distro and well supported, your hardware will most probably be supported.

Don't worry about venturing into the unknown, its the best way to learn:D

The worst part is the way they've made the options "user friendly"

All that means is for anyone who actually wants to do anything, has to wade their way through miles of crap which is supposed to make things easier for morons (who will only become dumber since they will never exercise their brains)

762191 2009-04-07 04:08:00 lol, im guessing that means things are going to be a bit different compared Windows ME (My current OS)

Ok so the hardware part of Ubuntu is fine, but the software? Will it support most windows programs (I can guess the answer but i still want to hear it from you guys) and by that i mean, MS Flight Sim, Nod32 AV, Americas army...

762192 2009-04-07 04:37:00 You have Windows ME ??? :yuck:

Maybe you should get Vista then.... AKA Windows ME II (this is not a good thing)

Ubuntu/Any linux will not natively run any windows programs, but some can be run under Wine and some have linux native alternatives

You won't need an antivirus program in linux though as none of the windows viruses can affect it :D

If you're planning on using a lot of windows program you know and love then you probably should keep using windows....

Though there's no harm in trying Ubuntu on a live CD to see what you think of it

TBH I haven't had many problems with ME, but every time I boot it, it just sits there - I don't use it. :p

762194 2009-04-07 05:49:00 I dont see what is wrong with Windows me, apart from the occasional blue screen of death, i find it OK. Although it cant handle any new programs anymore. When i get a new pc this is what is going to happen

762195 2009-04-07 05:52:00 That IS what's wrong with Windows ME... it crashes randomly for no apparent reason Agent_24 (57)
