| 585018 | 2007-08-30 11:50:00 | I do wonder why they release super prepay and then not change their old plans pricing at all for the past 4 years.lol They've dropped data a bit.It was I think 2004 when they decreased the data charges on account customers But I think for the past i dunno how many years $10MB for 1MB on prepay hasn't change which is ridiculous There should a balance between all the plans. At least decrease the cost of the plans a bit. Whats the point of having MotorMouth,Prepay nights and weekends,Get plans when superprepay is cheaper? I spend $120 this month too on my mobile .Last year I was spending over $300.That is ridiculous that I am being charged $1 per minute for the excess call for the you choose 20 plan. It's more like $1HK $0.20 per minute overseas. Then they'll make excuse saying blabla bla the area and population is blablabla than NZ.....If everyone were to think like that NZ should might as well stay behind and not compete and we should just sit back and die. Man they must earn alot of money.lol |

Sure they have a $50 1 GB plan (which is only 3G in a few cities in NZ), but who can afford to pay that, when you have also got fixed line broadband internet to pay for. In the US, some of their iphone plans come it unlimited mobile data, and their per minute calling rates are a heck of a lot cheaper than vodafone NZ. Imagine how expensive it would be to use the iphones in NZ if you were using all it's data features. |

| 585020 | 2007-08-30 20:50:00 | Sure NZ is a small pop and a bit rugged, but so is Finland, and Norway. Also our Telcos did not pay huge sums to get 3g bands from the government. Remember those ridiculous auctions they had in Europe a few years back. Regards Digby |

| 585022 | 2007-09-08 05:11:00 | Well..... We just went on a month trip to Thailand and I took an I-mate jasjam PDA with me with windows mobile on it to use for internet access. I was very suprised by the cheap pricing structure for gprs/3g data access you could sign up for from 12call/AIS or DTAC mobile phone companies in Thailand. You pick your plan for mobile data access and its gets taken off your remaining prepay balance. They charge by the time spent accessing the network not the data used.. I started off with 20hrs a month for 100baht = $4.00NZD Which I used up in the first week and switched to a higher plan. 100hrs a month for 350baht = $14.50NZD which was plenty as I still had over 2000minutes left after 3 weeks. If needed I could have gone up to and unlimited minutes access plan for 1000baht per month = $41.00NZD I used the internet, sent emails, took pictures and emailed them to everyone while driving down the road, on the boat in fact everywhere in Thailand.. It was slow at times as it was mostly using gprs out of bangkok but acceptable to use. I used the i-mate jasjam the whole time without visting an internet cafe once ! Im too scared to use it here connected up to vodafone now Im back due to the data pricing structure not the access time pricing structure used here.. Id happily pay vodafone or telecom for access time not data as Im sure most would if they changed to time accessed not data transferred !! I keep reading about how they both say it would slow the network down as data is very expensive to send over mobiles and that people would sit there with bitcomet and download etc.. This is rubbish.. Most would probably use their mobiles for web browsing and email not filesharing due to limited space on mobiles and speeds.. I'm sure they can block all the filesharing if they want to anyway! Why cant Telecom or Vodafone do the same thing here with charges. as it is easily done cheaply in asian countries ?? and in a country with 245 million population as thailand has compared to our 4 million population. Everyone over there has a mobile and uses it more than landlines.. Even the mobile phone charges are a fraction of the cost here. Mobile calls around thailand cost 3 baht per minute = 12.5centsNZ a minute International calls to anywhere are 20 baht a minute = 83 centsNZ per minute If that can be done over there, why not here in NZ. It must be profitable for the mobile companies over there to have this pricing structure.. We are certainly way behind in pricing structures compared to other countries in the world. Steve.. |

| 585023 | 2007-09-08 05:49:00 | By coincidence I received in the mail today a 'best mates' promo from Vodafone. It has been through the shredder but I do remember thinking "I wouldn't bother changing plans and get locked into a 24 month contract for a few measly dollars less than I pay now" I also tried their way overpriced mobile data recently... went through $98.00 in a few days updating my phone software :( Thanks Paul  |

| 585024 | 2007-09-08 18:44:00 | Yes according to the latest NZ Commerce Commission quarterly report (available on their web site) Vodaphone has the most Oppresive terms of all countries they survey ! We are still bobbing along at the bottom of the 30 OECD countries for pricing on land lines, broadband and mobile calls. Yet the Commerce Commission, The Minister AND Vodaphone all say they want us to be in the top half of the OECD by 2010. But we are not even moving up a bit ! The easiest way for them to do it is just to drop their prices ! No more of these special plans to best mates etc just drop the normal call rates by say 20% now and then 20% next year. I am sure if they did this their revenue would stay about the same as people would use their mobiles etc more as everyone I know is either frightened to use them or has "NO CREDIT on their phone ! Regards Digby The difference with Finland and Norway is that they have vast resources or natural gas and petroleum which has helped the government fund their awesome high speed fibre optic internet - something we don't have in such vast quantities. |

I'd also bet that finland and norway didn't spend vast amounts buying and propping up other telcos in another country like our telecom bought AAPT and just recently Powertel in Australia  If they had spent all those millions in NZ instead of Australia then perhaps we would have a good internet network also . . :annoyed: Steve . . |

| 585027 | 2007-09-09 08:03:00 | Yes, but I don't think Finland has vast resources of anything other than ice and trees and empty vodka bottles And if they spent the $ 1,000,000,000 (one billion) they got for the yellow pages and are returning to their shareholders ! (or was it 2 billion ?) Such arrogance from Telecom when they KNOW they network is crap and needs upgrading. Regards Digby |
