584275 2007-08-25 23:07:00 According to the free view http://www.freeviewnz.tv website Freeview aerial (terrestrial) will be available in early 2008 in nine major centres (as far as I am aware Freeview aerial (terrestrial) will be broadcasting in HD from then on)I think broadcasters have the option to broadcast in HD, but there is no guarantee they will. I heard Prime will be HD when the other Sky stations go HD, and also TV3 is apparently planning HD broadcasts. I don't know about TVNZ.

I suppose the big screen sets would be capable of digital broadcasts. Would be annoying to pay 2 or 3k $$ and then find you need to buy a digital converter box. There aren't any with integrated digital tuners in New Zealand (other than a few with satellite tuners, which have terrible picture quality in my opinion). Check French websites (as they are also using MPEG4 for terrestrial) if you want to try and guess what will be available here in the future: www.sony.fr

584276 2008-01-18 01:52:00 High Definition is now being trialled in NZ (Waiatarua transmitter and others) at the moment, have a look in the forums at www.freeviewshop.co.nz (www.freeviewshop.co.nz) there is a 1080i loop running at the moment and I have heard that 720p will also start today… Jim01 (12718)

584278 2008-01-18 05:06:00 Amen but people still seems willing to have c**p programs in HD than decent programs themselves. Bring back The Practice!!!! and Doc Martin!!!

Doc Martin is on TV1 this Saturday ie tomorrow ! at 8.45.

But I agree it would be nice to have quality tv 1.

There are only about 6 or 7 programs that I make sure I see each week. The rest of the time the tv is off. Aside from the news.

Yes I would not like to buy a big tv right now till I was sure that it will be able to play HD programs. Basically i think all the retail stores are telling porkies.

Mis-understanding here,I was referring to the programs.

We all like HD,but it would be nice if good programs went with it,I am sure you would agree.

584284 2008-01-20 20:14:00 TVNZ will broadcast the Beijing Olympics in 720p on the freeview terrestrial service. As for the tv itself, NZ only gets yesterdays technology, as most 'HD' tv's I've seen only do 720p, 1080i is a rarity. ubergeek85 (131)
