762582 2009-04-05 22:54:00 Hi everyone.
Searchindexer is hogging my system resources hugely and I want to disable it but I cannot.

Here are the steps I have taken.

Went into my computer, right clicked on c: and d: (which are actually 2 partitions on the same drive) and selected properties
Unchecked allow indexing on this drive and waited while it changed the file attributes.

Went into start/run/services.msc and scrolled down to indexing and double clicked it and selected disable.

Went into task manager and ended the process

Restarted the pc

When it restarted searchindexer was in the toolbar and it was running in processes.

Went into task manager again and ended the proc ess.
Went and rechecked in services and it still says it is disabled.
Went back into task processes and it had restarted itself again.

Any clues anyone?

Thanks

Thanks. I missed that one.
That was one huge post with lots of suggestion and the answer in my case was right down the bottom.
So for anyone else with the same symptoms, the answer is: Uninstall Windows search 4.0

Thanks
Problem solved
