763061 2009-04-07 22:42:00 Hi all,
I recently got my PC fixed after a few weeks of having no BIOS. However, very dissapointingly, my HDD sounds like the reader head bearings are made of gravel. Does this mean I need to get a new HDD? It's only a couple of months old. Also my video card, which was working, is now not working. The BIOS beeps 'no video card or bad video RAM'. A PCI video card works fine. I thought maybe the fact that the BIOS is reporting 0V on the 12V rail could have caused either of these problems. A physical check on a molex connector verified that there is 12V on it. Perhaps I need an 8pin in the mobo, as at the moment I only have a 4pin ATX connector in.

Yes, and if you can, do it from a linux live CD or a BART PE/UBCD4Win

try reseating the GFX card. Sounds like this could be a bad PSU affecting other parts..

763065 2009-04-07 23:02:00 Why do you suggest using a linux disc? sammo450 (13626)
763066 2009-04-07 23:06:00 Less use of the hard drive.

When you boot up into an OS there are many read/write cycles.

That hard drive looks like it'll fail soon so minimizing read/write cycles would be good idea

Hard drive failing.
Stuffed graphics.
Motherboard still dodgy.

Go back to the shop and get all 3 sorted properly.

763068 2009-04-08 00:25:00 Thing is it's a different motherboard. Someone from another forum sent it to me. It seems all right, but you think it's the motherboard causing issues? sammo450 (13626)
763069 2009-04-08 03:09:00 Sorry about the double post,
When I drag windows around the screen, they move really slowly, kind of scanning along. Is that just the video card(Trident 9440) having trouble? Or does it bode of something much worse?
