763032 2009-04-07 22:41:00 Hi,

I have been after a way to connect my laptop to an analogue TV to show movies etc. My laptop is an HP DV5 and has an HDMI port but I guess that's by the by for analogue displays. I bought a $6 VGA to RCA/S-Video cable of Trademe but haven't had any luck with that. I assumed my Nvidia 9600M GT would support TV out as it discusses it in the manual but i haven't been able to configure the options to get a useable image yet.

Just wondering how others get around this or what ideas you have? The TV in question by the way is a reasonably old Philips that only has RCA inputs so I guess that rules out S-Video.

Cheers,

Paul

763033 2009-04-07 22:52:00 I've found that VGA to RCA/S-Vide only works occasionally, rarely works

I got it working with my mini HTPC with a bit of twinkering, but I've found the easiest solution is a scan converter:
www.trademe.co.nz

Expensive, but guranteed it'll work on any TV and PC/Laptop.

Supports resolutions up to 720p so isn't bad quality either

763035 2009-04-09 04:38:00 ah you got conned, that is only a passive adaptor, you'll need an active adaptor with usually a big box in between the VGA and TV plug (that or you get an old school compaq armada with a composite out port or a laptop with Svideo) williamF (115)
