762901 2009-04-07 06:34:00 Hi guys. Hoping someone can help, please? I have XP Home with SP3 and all the updates, etc. Lately I have noticed that if I have to restart or Shut Down, for some reason, it just hangs. I have gone away and left it for sometime, but still hanging. This time I tried Shut Down and it worked.Any help and or advise appreciated. Ian.:banana ianhnz (4263)
762902 2009-04-07 06:54:00 What software have you installed recently?

Go run>devmgmt.msc and see if there are any drivers with an exclaimation mark on them, may be a bad driver haning on shtudown

And check in event viewer for any errors that may be related to this and copy and paste them here for analysis(Run>eventvwr)

762903 2009-04-07 07:08:00 Hi and thanks. Re: devmgmt.msc all's clear there. In eventvwr I have the following errors around 17:50 tonight, so that was after the rebbot. The performance counter name string value in the registry is incorrectly formatted. The bogus string is 4124, the bogus index value is the first DWORD in Data section while the last valid index values are the second and third DWORD in Data section.
LastCounter and LastHelp values of performance registry is corrupted and needs to be updated. The first and second DWORDs in Data Section are the original values while the third and forth DWORDs in Data Section are the updated new values.
