586959 2007-09-01 22:28:00 Does anyone know if there's any value in trading in 35 mm SLR gear for new Digital camera stuff.

I've a heap of Olympus and some Nikon gear that may be worth something.

Anyone any experiences?

586960 2007-09-01 22:33:00 Not worth much.
A lot of lenses and accessories may still work with the digi's ie .. the more pro models, say Nikon D200 and up - ie .. remote release cable, flash in reduced mode and the lenses still meter but will be manual focus or AF lenses will continue to work.

586961 2007-09-01 22:46:00 I am in the same situation where I will hopefully be getting a new digital camera body (35 ml SLR) for existing lenses after I have checked out with The Photo Warehouse as to whether my "old" lenses will work on a newer model Digital SLR.
I like taking photos but don't like paying to have the film developed and I am not a pro photographer, just an enthusiastic hobbyist. It might even give me an excuse to try out Aperture or Adobe's Light Room.

586962 2007-09-02 01:02:00 What is the Nikon stuff you want to sell?
Could be interested in a Perspective Correction Lens, preferably with the 2.8 aperture, and a Nikkor 85 mm F2 AIS, if in good condition.

Sorry Ken,nothing so elegant merely a Nikon 801 body with a 35-70 AF Nikkor and a 70-210 AF Nikkor

586964 2007-09-02 03:10:00 AF nikkors will work in any Nikon dSLR other than D40/40x which won't AF as it lacks a link in the lens mount. Those need AFS lenses.

Film body I may just keep it. For the odd film use.
That body maybe worth $100nz I guess.

586965 2007-09-03 00:00:00 You are probably like thousands of others. Who wants a film camera now ?
Everyone is digital and no one wants to pay for film.

I have two old Nikons (Nikormatts) with beautiful lenses but they don't fit modern Nikons.

586966 2007-09-03 00:41:00 I have a Nikon film body and can develop and enlarge monochrome.

I've yet to see a good digital b&w print. Desaturating colour digital is not the same and has a long way to go before it's in the same class as b&w photography.

Also, in medium and large format, there is a place for film. Not many photographers can afford $40,000 or so for a Hasselblad medium format body.
