586616 2007-08-31 10:06:00 Hi people .

I am a little confused here . One male marries one female one would hope . Or maybe not as the case may be .

Is this trying to tell me that females still live longer than males? I have outlived two wives so far . May I also ask what is the average New Zealander?

Read the story if you wish .

Comments appreciated .

Dads lose out on Father's Day
Friday, 31 August 2007

Dads are likely to have, on average, seven fewer Father's Days than mums get Mother's Days because they become parents later and have shorter life expectancy .

This warning to make the most of Father's Day on Sunday comes from figures released today by Statistics New Zealand .

The figures also show that 160 men can expect to become fathers this Father's Day, two of whom will have twins .

Those men now becoming fathers are on average five years older than their own fathers were when they were born, with 33 the current average age of fathers of new babies .

One in 100 newborns will have a father who is aged 50 or older .

While there are many joys that accompany parenthood, fathers may also find themselves a little sleep deprived with an average 42 minutes less sleep than an average New Zealander .

It was unknown when I lived in the UK.

Mother's Day also, it used to be known as Mothering Sunday

Agreed Terrey. A little like other customs imported from elsewhere. The UK imported Lamb from NZ a while back. The UK also imported people from West Indies etc.

Then we go to export.
As I understand history my forefathers were exported from the UK.

586621 2007-08-31 13:15:00 Fathers day is an opportunity to have one's family take one out for a meal, notwithstanding that Dad usually ends up indirectly picking up the tab. The whole family go out to a Restaurant, my wife insists on paying with her credit card, which is a joint one - guess who pays the credit card bill.
I would rather stay home and have a bloody good barbecue, than go to some posh expensive restaurant, and pay a fortune for a smaller than entree size main meal. Presents, usually something that has been chosen with the minimum of thought - the monty for me was being given a cheap ($20)Stanley hammer, because the expensive ($100+) Eastwing hammer I use is getting old.:badpc:

586622 2007-08-31 13:24:00 For occasions such as Father's Day I try to get the family to go to Hoon Hay 88, a former Working Mens' Club where for $23 each person has a feast fit for a king, multiple helpings, you can go back as many times as you wish and a huge variety of dishes. The best deal I have ever come across. zqwerty (97)
