And how many Linux users scan for Linux viruses?

586311 2007-09-01 07:29:00 i assume it isn't many, as for mac users - which kinda proves my theory

we're back to market share here

For Mac users it would be 0 due to the fact that you need admin permission to install stuff (no_root_user) so things like malicious spyware can't install without user intervention.

The dog keeps chasing its tail, bit like Ground Hog Day.(it just repeats)
The only thing missing from this repetitive argument is the comment about Microsoft investing $150 Million US in Apple back in 1997 (Microsoft got a return on that investment when they sold their shares a couple of years later)

586315 2007-09-01 11:55:00 along with metla's response, there is so many different flavours of linux that writing a virus to do some widespread damage is pretty damn hard, especially as it would have to infect other systems in order to propagate (coming back to market share here), AND who said Linux didn't have viruses?
But they are all based on the same kernel or version of and are just package differently. So that means all the different flavours don't really mean anything. As for the viruses there are a few for Linux but they can only affect your user space and not cripple the whole PC.

you may not realise, but with software even the slightest change in the right places can render programs (like viruses) inoperable. while many distros i'm sure are the same, there is enough difference between them to act as a security feature

well that's what the linux community says anyway... i trust them more than mac fanatics, but at the same time there isn't enough of them (linux-ers) to really notice:lol:

586317 2007-09-01 20:25:00 No one gives a crap if you have seen a positive vista review or not, Shut up and wise up. I'm yet to see a single post from you yet where you know what your dribbling on about.

And if anyone thinks this is a uncalled for, Go over to a Mac site and try posting 100 threads of piffle about crap you don't use., have no idea about, and claim that your preferred is better in every instance.

Where the hell is the tar and feathers when you need them?

hA HA ,YOU COME UP WITH YOUR Usual reasoned argument, then are rebutted by our resident genius and you come back for more.
