586279 2007-08-31 08:35:00 6 months on, and I'm enjoying Vista more than ever. Most of the wrinkles that worried me have been ironed out, and I am far more efficient on Vista than I ever was on XP (granted, alot of this has to do with Office 2007 though).

Vista = :thumbs: to me.

I really like office 2007, but I have to consult help every now & then to find out where a feature/function has moved to

I have had and still have a lot of problems with Vista, but I have faith that it will come right eventually.

what market share myth?

That OS X will get viruses when it gets more market share. Vista got hacked when it had less than 5% market share so that kind of blows that theory out of the water. Theoretically OS X should have about 16,000+ viruses for its 5% market share if that theory was true.

not really, seeing as vista will have 90% in a few years, they're writing viruses for the latest version of popular software; so more people writing viruses (along with legal software) for the more popular system still applies

how can you not see that once mac has enough users for anyone to care it will see more viruses (and there are already some out there)

Some examples of current active Mac OS X viruses - as opposed to proof of concept lab rats would be beneficial to support your argument motorbyclist ( and I don't mean documented OS vulnerabilites)
OS X has been around since early 2001 and has gained more than enough media attention in that time to warrant virus writers and hackers making themselves famous for being "first".

586284 2007-08-31 10:26:00 media attention? unlike yourself many people don't regard the media as a reason to do anything, especially when they are trying to infect as large a number of machines as possible

now i didn't say mac OSX, i just said mac. and i'll go looking for the article i read about it.

Well if you could find some current OS X viruses to support your argument, that would be great. I am aware that there are/were about about 50 Mac Classic viruses in total that only infected Mac systems up to OS9 and were generally spread by infected floppy disks. These viruses don't infect OS X so would be a waist of time posting. Also current Macs don't have floppy drives.

Virus writers and people who utilize botnets generally aim to infect systems that are easy to gain control over which is why they go for Windows.

586286 2007-08-31 10:34:00 LOL, go to google and search for "mac osx virus"

one result leads to this site: http://www.securemac.com/ - LOL a whole company devoted to mac security. interesting to read, actually.

does anyone remember that story a while ago about mac dloading updates, including antiviral files, without user permission or knowledge?

oh, and as for "being the first":

and W-T-F do floppy drives have o do with anything? there's a thing called the INTERNET

i guarantee you that if mac and windows swapped market share tomorrow, the share of malware would go with it:

WHY WRITE MALICIOUS SOFTWARE FOR AN OS THAT NOONE USES? you won't do any damage (relatively), AND it won't spread very well
