763071 2009-04-08 05:30:00 Thing is it's a different motherboard. Someone from another forum sent it to me. It seems all right, but you think it's the motherboard causing issues?

HDD noises are a sign of imminent death
You have said the card isn't working. Seeing its age I'd agree its also about to die.
And the BIOS sounds suspicious, update it and see what happens, if its still misreporting things then I'd worry about that too.

Why did you get another board if this shop fixed it?

763072 2009-04-08 07:49:00 You could try turning off the power and disconnecting both HDD cables. Restart, and see if the noise is still there or not - just one way to be certain if it is indeed the HDD or a fan.

I'd seriously question the motherboard setup, plugs and drivers. Motherboards require the most care and research re all components when upgrading.

Does Device manager show a bunch of coloured ! or X icons on various hardware components?

763073 2009-04-08 22:58:00 No all hardware is fine in device manager. HDD makes noises when seeking, not when it's just running(sorry if that caused some confusion). I think it's using MS drivers. I got the new board because I tried updating the BIOS on my old one through Windows. It didn't work, so the guy who suggested I try it gave me a new mobo(old one not fixed). Would you recommend using any of the BIOS level ASUS easy updaters, or is it best to stick with a boot disc? sammo450 (13626)
763074 2009-04-09 01:02:00 Device manager is NOT a fault diagnostic tool.

Device manager will only tell you something is broken when there are literally towering flames coming out of your CD drive.

Device manager may help you if you drivers aren't installed properly but that's about it.

If your PCs 12v rail was genuinely at 0v then your PC would not even turn on.

Either your BIOS is seriously buggy (I would only expect that from someone like ECS), or the voltage sensor is broken, or there is other damage to the motherboard

Some HDDs do make horrible noises when seeking, but if it didn't make them before and does now, I'd be wary.

Install Speedfan, check SMART status of your drive.
