| 587029 | 2007-09-11 21:10:00 | I hate to look like I am on a mission here..but what version of WMP (if you use it at all, that is) are you using? Home-ripped-burned DVDs may not play with WMP11 from the act of stripping of the security (if you even did that!) and it will balk at letting you see them. Being able to play store-bought DVDs or rentals and NOT home-burned ones makes me suspect that you've got WMP11. BTW: Quicktime Player is also working the DRM thing now too. It refuses to play what it incorrectly deems as pirated DVDs..even here in the US where we have the "Use-By-Proxy" law still on the books..at least this week it is anyway. I also suggest that there might be zonal or district security settings...NZ might have more restrictive licenses when youse guys get Windows Updates and such. This might explain the disparity of problems in one place and not in another. How M$ affirms country of operation, I'm not sure but I DO believe that there is some sort of .nz or .aus tail on your addresses somehow when you click on Windows Updates. <edit..I removed a really GREAT IDEA for youse guys to try..but I don't want Jen giving me another black mark> Hi Joe, Yes, I'm using WMP11, but the problem discs are problematic not just when I play them on the computer, but on any DVD player (including various brands of standalone DVD players, PS2, etc). And other discs that have no problems also play in the WMP11 fine, so I don't think that's the issue. Thanks anyway. |

| 587030 | 2007-09-11 21:13:00 | Lizard, A friend recorded a TV episode for me on his HDD/DVD recorder same model as yours. I played it on my Panasonic VHS/DVD player and it would not play, neither would it play on my older Pioneer DVD player, nor on my PC. He said it played perfectly on the recorder it was recorded on. Hi Bantu, Sounds similar, except the discs don't play back properly on the original recorder, either. I should restate that the discs are not completely unplayable. Just certain sections of the disc (usually towards the end). The video starts to stutter and tear, and then freeze. The player obviously is trying to get past the dodgy section, and occasionally succeeds, but more often than not, gives up, and the disc has to be ejected. |
