586183 2007-09-01 10:55:00 I think the so called red necks are people fighting back at the bastards who have changed CHCH from a nice White working class English place to a social engineering experiment gone bad. They used to say CHCH was more English than England but unfortunately thats not the case any more.

Okay okay. You object to the use of the term "redneck". What about "bigot" then?

You sound like a bigot to me, tedheath.

Just who are these bastards that have changed CHCH from a "...nice White working class English place..." ?

So a little town - in an Island in the Pacific Ocean for God's sake - isn't more English than England itself? And that's unfortunate?

I'd say it's about time!

Why don't you bugger off to England if you're so proud of your ancestry?

586186 2007-09-01 20:25:00 I don't consider comparisons with England to be necessarily a good thing, nor something to aspire to .

Historically with its monoculture and racism, or today losing its identity with its growing and virilent Muslim population and violent youth gangs, England should serve as a warning to other countries, not as something to emulate or desire to be .

The idea of Christchurch being more "England than England" is just reflecting a cultural myth of what people thought England was like in the 1950's .

Heck who would have wanted to live in Christchurch in the 1950's? Not to mention in the early 1980's where you couldn't find a decent restaraunt, and everyone went to bed at 10pm .

Its no coincidence that so many British are fleeing their home to come to NZ, canada and America . They don't want to live in a country that is "English" .

Hey Deane, we know the truth about Christchurch, I like you disagree totally with some opinions expressed in this thread about our city.

But don't allow your self to be baited by people that proberly take hours travel the same distance on the road to work that we do in 1/4 of hour.

Sometimes it is forgotten by the tenants of NZ, that all our ancestors were all once immigrates. even the Maori arrived on a boat. But we all have the right to call ourselves "Kiwi".

586188 2007-09-03 05:19:00 Lol yes CHCH is the only place in NZ where there is crime

The story itself is ubfortunate, but I would strongly point out the media are more interested in sensationalising, hardly ever reporting a balanced story with all the facts . Don't be surprised if you only have 50% of the actual story .

The national Crime statistics show CHCH is about the same as Auck and Well .

The CHCH angle is a load of garbage .

586189 2007-09-03 13:30:00 My longest memory of Christchurch goes back to 1963 when I was an aircrew officer trainee at Wigram.
Murray Whineray, Wilson's brother, was on the same Wings Course as me, and prior to the 1963 All Blacks touring overseas, a North Island South Island match was played at Lancaster Park. Murray Whineray worked the Oracle and organised tickets for all on the course who wished to attend.
This was my introduction to Christchurch's great sporting heritage.
Every time the great Don Clark lined up to take a kick for the North Island, the Christchurch home crowd booed him to a man. If he had been doing it for the All Blacks on that occasion it would have been very different. This unsporting attitude differentiated Christchurch home crowds from the rest of NZ in those days. I believe it is even worse today, although no longer does Christchurch seem to have a monopoly on boorish unsporting behaviour.

586191 2007-09-03 19:41:00 The fact it happened locally is irrelevant.

The fact that people are considered guilty until proven innocent when it comes to sex crimes is.

In a recent case 3 young lads went up the hill to take turns with some chick who they claimed was quite into the group thing. A month later she laid a gang-rape complaint. Arrests were made, and all the usual disruption of lives occurred, and after the cops actually looked at the video of the wild night out that one of the lads had on his cell phone, the charges were dropped. It took some time before the cops at watched the home made F-grade porn enough times to decide that the "victim" was indeed willing, despite claims she later made to the contrary. All charges were dropped.

I'd like to know what if any charges the "victim" then faced regarding the laying of a false complaint?

It would appear that in this enlightened century, which hunts are alive and well, all we have to do is label someone some sort of sex criminal, and that's it, the witch is identified, and fair game for harassment.. We may as well light the brazier and put the accused out of their misery, all though that wouldn't allow them to serve as scape goat for our collective hatred and guilt now would it?
