763144 2009-04-08 05:50:00 My friend just want's to know which security software of the ones listed below is better.

He said that it could help him if you say which place do you put them (e.g. if Kaspersky Internet Security 2009 is the best and ESET Smart Security 4 is 2nd, you would say:

1st: Kaspersky Internet Security 2009
2nd: ESET Smart Security 4
and so on...)

Options:
AVG 8.5 Free
AVG Internet Security Suite 8.5
Avast! Home Edition 4.8
Avast! Professional Edition
ESET Smart Security 4
ESET AntiVirus
Kaspersky Internet Security 2009
CA Internet Security Suite Plus 2009
ZoneAlarm Extreme Security
Other...

Thanks a lot

763145 2009-04-08 05:51:00 Many people here seem to like NOD32, but I use Avast :) davidmmac (4619)
763146 2009-04-08 05:55:00 Dont touch any of them apart from:

1: Eset NOD32 v.4
1: Eset Smart Security v.4
2: Avast Home Edition v. 4.8

Kaspersky would be the best of the rest, but IMO none come close to NOD32.

I've tried out Kaspersky, it seems to do about as good a job as NOD32 but is far heavier on the system, uses a lot more CPU cycles.

On the whole NOD32 is far superior.

AVG Internet Security, CA Internet Security, Zone Alarm Extreme Security, they are gawd awful and should be avoided at all costs, along with any Norton/Symantec product, McAfee and Trend Micro Pc-Cillin.

Zone Alarm's stand alone firewall is OK, but not the security suite.

763147 2009-04-08 05:56:00 x2 on NOD32 or Avast Pro A/V
I would also have Zone Alarm and I would definitely NOT have Kaspersky or Norton.

763148 2009-04-08 06:32:00 Which is better:

Avast Pro with Comodo Firewall
or
Avast Home Edition with Zonealarm

763149 2009-04-08 06:52:00 Avast Pro with Comodo.

But it is overkill to have a software firewall really. Windows' bult in one+router firewall is sufficient. Its been exaggerated that you need 3 anti viruses and 2 firewalls to protect a PC...all myths. 1 AV+Windows FW is fine.

Don't bother getting Avast! Pro, if you're going to buy an AV then get Nod32.

How long have you been a computer security expert Blam.

I don't believe for the average user that it is overkill to have a software firewall installed. Neither the windows firewall or the router one protects against outbound traffic and the more protection you have the better considering the way some non technical people operate their computers.

I've had enough experience to know this. A simple end user doesn't need a seperate firewall. It is sufficient. I used to use Comodo but now I just use the inbult firewall. 6 months fine. What do you do on your computer?:illogical

I doubt if your security experience counts for a lot considering you are only 14 years old.

Do you realize we have been discussing this topic on this forum when you were just starting primary school.

It is probably fine for you as you know your way around computers but so many people are completely ignorant about computer security and they read these posts and act on the advice given and to say that it is a myth that you need a software firewall can give people a false sense of security.

Most people here know who I am but for your benefit I use a Mac
What I don't have to do is waste hours updating and scanning for viruses, trojans and spyware.

763153 2009-04-08 08:21:00 Call me paranoid if you like but all of our PC's have some sort of extra firewall, especially the kids one who knows what they get up to, he is same age as Blam and fairly competent around PC's gary67 (56)
