| 762904 | 2009-04-07 06:34:00 | Is there a program out there that can tell me what triggered the PC to crash/freeze then restart? Sometimes when installing games the progress bar gets so far and then the PC restarts itself. The same when doing a defrag. All goes well then the PC restarts itself. Unpacking files can do the same thing. From memory there is a log file that is created when a PC crashes. Is this correct? Or as mentioned above, is there a program that records why the PC crashed. Unfortunately it is random which is even more frustrating... |

| 762905 | 2009-04-07 06:49:00 | What OS and SP? In windows, you can go run>eventvwr and it'll tell you why it froze at a particular time. Find it, and copy and paste it here. Crashing/freezing can be caused my anything; bad drivers, corrupt windows, software incompatability, bad hardware etc You'll need to give us more details for us to diagnose this problem effeciently And you should disable automatically restart, tell us your OS and we can tell you how. If so, have a look in Event Viewer and also disable the restarting: WinKey+Pause>Advanced>Startup and Recovery>Remove tick from Automatically restart. | 762907 | 2009-04-07 09:37:00 | Sorry. Windows XP (SP3). E6600 CPU 4Gb DDR2 Memory (XP only recognises 3.5Gb!) 8800GTS Video Card A friend of mine mentioned the event viewer which I had a look at. Under "system" there is a lot of errors stating the source is "disk". Clicking on it brings up a box with a link to Microsoft help and support centre. It basically says the fault could be a loose or failing cable to the drive. I don't think this is the case but will check all of the cables etc. |

| 762909 | 2009-04-07 09:45:00 | Did you untick automatically restart, to see if it blue screens and shows the name of a driver / file? XP only recognises 3.25- 3.5 gb if its 32 bit, which is normal. You need 64 bit to see more The entries you saw, is the time around the time it freezes / crashes? Whats the brand/model of the mobo? |

| 762910 | 2009-04-07 12:34:00 | Phew! Ok - I have just unticked the automatic restart. The PC froze ingame once but there were no entries in the Event log or blue screen. It just froze so I had to reset. Motherboard is a Gigabyte 965P-DS3P. Both Hard drives are Seagate from memory. Power supply is an Enermax 535w. |

May be a memory problem, download the zip file from here (www.memtest86.com) and then extract the iso and burn to a cd. Boot from the Cd and perform the memtest |

I have replaced the rear fan for a bigger diameter fan for more flow and had the side off for the last three weeks with a house fan blowing into it. I may look at putting a bigger power supply in anyway to eliminate that side of it. |
